I have wanted to find members of Randy's family for some time now. I wanted to let them know that your son was not alone at the end. I was helping to find people trapped inside the 7-11 when we found Randy. I sat with him after we found him because I felt even though he had passed that he shouldn't be alone. I hope that brings your family some peace to know he was not alone at the end. My heart goes out to your family. A day has not gone by when I hadn't thought about that day and your son Randy.

To Randy's family,
I know this must be a very difficult day for all of you. I attended Randy's funeral to support his cousin Amir and his family, as they are dear friends. Consequently, I Randy's mother and son that day and I just wanted to express my sympathy today. Take comfort in knowing that others share your loss. I am thinking of all of you, with a great deal of love and concern.
Sincerely,
Sandy Bitner

I am so sorry for you loss, my heart grieves for all those who have lost their loved ones. But your son touched my heart in a way that I can not described. When I first saw his photo he reminded me so much of someone from my past. After a few moments I realized that he could have been this little boy Randy Smith that I met when he was just 9 or 10 years old when I lived in Florida. He would have been a cousin to my son Brad (they never met). Seeing your son's photo made me realize that life is too short and you can not hold grudges and you can keep letting the 'what if's stop you in life. My son he will be 27 this year) has never met his biological father or any one from his side of the family. I just wanted let you know that you son's photo touched me and that starting today I am going to try to find my son's father side of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and friends. Your son will have an everlasting effect on my heart. God bless all of you.

just found out today that one of my best friends was one of the 24 killed, Randy Smith, he was a very good friend for many many years, then fell away form our group of friends, and lost touch. He showed up a few months ago at my door apologizing for not staying in touch and did the same with our other friends. Its heartbreaking. We all called him 'lil' randy. I guess he made peace without even knowing he was going to die some months later.
One of our friends that owns a huge company in durant had been talking to him because randy was looking for work, and they didnt follow up, hes totally distraught. Its all the things going on in your mind if i would have done this or that, he wouldnt have been killed. You will be greatly missed Randy

Darlene and Terry I went to school with Randy and worked with him at Grider's. I cannot tell you how much my heart hurts for your loss. Randy was the best friend anyone could have and was always there to talk when you needed him. I share the grief you hold and hope you get peace knowing that he touched so many lives with his personality. I love you Randy and will truly miss you!
