KEVIN DEVLIN Obituary

Feb 3, 1928 - Jan 2, 2015 CONWAY SPRINGS, KS The Reverend Kevin Devlin, 86, died on January 2, 2015, in Wichita, Kansas. Father Devlin was born on February 3, 1928, in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, one of nine children of Patrick and Selina O'Neill Devlin. Father Devlin attended All Hallows Seminary, Dublin, Ireland, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 20, 1954. At the invitation of the Most Reverend Eugene McGuinness, he immigrated to Oklahoma to assume his first assignment as Associate Pastor of Saint Mary Church, Medford, Oklahoma. During his almost 50 years of service to the people of Oklahoma, he served in the following parishes: Saint Mary Church, Medford; Saint Joseph Church, Pond Creek, and Mission in Kremlin; Holy Family Church, Canute; St. Patrick Church, Walters, and Mission in Waurika; Mother of Sorrows Church, Apache, and Mission in Cyril; St. Joseph Church, Blackwell; St. Joseph, Tonkawa; St. Matthew Church, Elk City; St. Cornelius Church in Cherokee; and St. Rose of Lima Church, Perry. Father Devlin retired to Conway Springs, Kansas, in July 2002. He celebrated 60 years in the priesthood in 2014. Father Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Francis, Patrick Joseph, Malachy Brendan, Vincent, and Bernard Devlin; and his two sisters, Eleanor Mary and Marie Philomena O'Neill. He is survived by one brother, Michael Gerald "Jerry" Devlin and wife Sheryel, of Conway Springs, KS; one sister-in-law, Noreen Devlin, of Coleraine, Northern Ireland; numerous nieces and nephews and a number of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, with the family present 6-7 p.m. at Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs, Kansas. A Vigil service will be held at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Oklahoma City, Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Oklahoma City, Friday, January 9, 2015, at 10 a.m. Graveside Committal Service will be at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conway Springs, Kansas. Our condolences to Fr. Devlin's family. I have no doubt he is enjoying God's radiant presence. He was one of the best priests I have ever known. I remember him when I was in 8th grade at Holy Family School. Later when he returned to St. Matthew's Parish in Elk City my husband Dannie became Catholic and we named our 4th child after him and Sister Eugene who taught the RCIA class that brought Dannie into the faith. He was always approachable and friendly; & especially a strong witness to our faith. I'm sorry we kept putting off going to see him like we talked about the last few years.
