Darrell was a great man and will never be forgotten. I wish that I could have been there to say goodbye and see him one last time. Stay strong and remember all the great times you had with him and celebrate his life. He will be missed dearly.

Darrell was a good man and lived a full life. I thank him for his service to our country and the neat boat rides he gave us on his lake. It is unfortunate that medical science has not reached the point where diseases like his can be more effectively treated. It is sad, too, that his heart attack squelched his hope of a lung transplant, argggg. I am happy that I had a chance to say a last goodbye to Darrell and spend some time with Karla!

I am comforted by the fact that his family is strong and good and that they will be mutually supportive. I know he loved them and regrets having to go so young. Bummer!

Karla and Family,
I attended class at Bellevue with Daryll for the 2008/2009 school year. He spoke of you often. I am sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in knowing he's in a better place.

Karla, I am Darrell’s cousin Brad. We were pretty close cousins when we were kids; it still seems like yesterday. My Mom and Mary were sisters and we would visit them very often when they lived in Waterloo and after they moved to Keokuk. I remember I was with Darrell at their house in Waterloo when the Beatles debuted on Ed Sullivan. I remember getting into mischief and Uncle Buck getting after us. I remember Mom getting a call when Darrell was hit by a car riding his bike; he was in serious condition for awhile. I remember racing our bikes in the dark; Darrell tried to take a short cut, hit a telephone pole guide wire and broke his collarbone. He went 3 days before they realized it was broken! I remember fishing at Uncle Buck’s cemetery pond and Darrell caught the big one; I got the worse case of chiggers! I remember when we were about 13 Darrell coming to my house in Iowa one summer. All the girls in my class wanted to know his name, I was so jealous. He was a strong good looking kid and that’s how I remember him. I regret that we grew apart. I am so pleased to read and know he grew into a Christian man. I trust he is again at his very best in the land Christ promises for his brothers.

With Love and fond memories,
Brad Richards

Karla and family,

"Those who see God can walk in the dark,
those who see love can see God.
Those who have witnessed the sun rise and set,
those who have studied a flower unfold,
those who have focused on land, sea and sky,
have seen Jesus Christ."

And now Darrell is sitting next to Jesus before God. May you find comfort in this.

DeColores!
