Eulyla VanSkiver Obituary

VanSkiver, Eulyla Christine Johnson
May 22, 1919 - Aug 31, 2010
Eulyla was born May 22, 1919 at Loomis, NE, and departed this world at Omaha at the age of 91 years and 3 1/2 months. Eulyla was baptised and confirmed in the Christian faith in the Swedish Mission Churches. The piano and music were tremendously important to Eulyla, all through her life. She began playing in church at age 7. She would variously play for church, for choir, and for groups within the church. She also played for many weddings and funerals. While in school, Eulyla played for many events and activities. She later continued as a church pianist and also organist, playing in Phelps County, Lincoln and Omaha. Eulyla also taught piano to a large number of students in Omaha during a period of more than 30 years. After college, Eulyla was employed in government service, and subsequently for a long period as a legal secretary and office manager of a law firm. Eulyla married Ronald E. VanSkiver on Aug 25, 1946 and to this union was born 1 son, Clark Johnson. Eulyla was also an ardent homemaker and notably in cooking and baking. She was quick to bring gifts of food or flowers to friends, neighbors, and church functions. She was "grateful for the work to do, and the strength to do it!" Her family's profound gratitude knows no bounds. Eulyla also cultivated many houseplants and perennial flower beds. Other interests included antiques, reading, sewing, word puzzles, and the occasional day trip to a nearby town, state park, or museum. Eulyla was a person of endless, deep-seated optimism on a day-by-day basis. She exhibited great strength in periods of significant adversity. She was also possessed of a vivacious graciousness which put people at ease in any context. A devout and Godly woman, Eulyla was quiet and self-effacing. She viewed her hard work in church music, running a household, and extending kindnesses to relatives, neighbors and friends merely as things done in the work of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Eulyla is survived by her son, Clark; cousins; friends; neighbors. Prior to hospitalization, and despite health issues, she continued to play hymns each day on her piano for 30-40 minutes. May the time be very, very short until we are reunited!
