Harrington, Alfred R. MD, MPH, MBA, CHCQM

Dr. Alfred R. Harrington, of Omaha, NE, died of natural causes on July 28th during a visit to New York, NY. He was a loving husband to Claudia Greene-Harrington and a devoted father to Alfred M. Harrington. Well-respected among his colleagues and an avid and engaged scholar, Dr. Harrington had a zeal for knowledge that was evidenced by the number of degrees and certifications he held and his ongoing quest to remain up-to-date in his areas of learning by attending countless seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional development courses. He was trained as a medical doctor at Yale University School of Medicine. He received a Master's Degree in Public Health-also from Yale. This added expertise allowed Dr. Harrington to expand his focus to include diagnosis and preventive treatment of health issues that plague communities. Dr. Harrington further augmented his training with a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also received Certification in Health Care Quality Management from the American Board of Quality Assurance Utilization Review Physicians. With an unwavering and passionate desire to empower individuals and communities to heal themselves, Dr. Harrington founded Harrington and Associates, which conducted over 20 short and long term projects in the health industry. With Dr. Harrington as President and CEO, Harrington and Associates addressed some of the core issues that affect the health of communities by providing a portfolio of services for nonprofit organizations, small businesses and government institutions. As a means to disseminate his wealth of knowledge, during his professional career, Dr. Harrington not only delivered over 40 presentations and reports involving expanding the knowledge base of individuals and communities but also formerly served as a clinical instructor at Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center and as a medical director at Charles Drew Health Center. He and his wife, Dr. Claudia Greene-Harrington, also co-authored an article published in the Journal of the National Medical Association. Dr. Harrington served on nearly 20 boards and committees during his career and received numerous awards and recognition for his expertise, leadership, and service. Dr. Harrington was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Enid Harrington. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Dr. Claudia Greene-Harrington; his son, Alfred M. Harrington, both of Omaha; one sister, Cheryl Francis Harrington, California; two brothers, Mark J. (Sonia) Harrington; and David (Renata) Harrington; two nephews, Mark A. Can't believe it's been six years.... but I have no doubt that he has watched over you and your family and smiled often as you push on with a smile and with so much love for the world around you. Know he is proud of how your son has grown - and graduated! And how you have promoted and grown professionally! And that is one incredible legacy

It is with deep regret that the board, foundation board and staff of Charles Drew Health Center extends its sympathy to the family of Dr. Alfred R. Harrington. We are sadden to learn of his passing and to know that our community will no longer be the benefactor of his passion for improving health outcomes for underserved patients and communities.

Dr. Harrington was a leader, advocate and friend of Charles Drew Health Center and its many health-related programs and services.

Our thoughts are with his lovely wife Dr. Claudia Harrington and his son. We are here to support you in whatever capacity is needed.
