Johnnie Whitmire Obituary
A native of Barrow County, Ga., Mrs. Whitmire was the daughter of the late Loy and Nina McEver Whitehead. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Whitmire Jr. Mrs. Whitmire was a chartered member of Beech Haven Baptist Church, where she served as an assistant organist, sang in the choir and played the hand bells.
Survivors include children, Thomas and Shelley Whitmire and Janie Whitmire Hartman; sisters, Ruby Fussel, Charlotte Roberts and Toppy Beard; grandchildren, Heather and Danny Vargas, Erin and Zbyszek Szewczyk and Scott and Meimi Hartman; and great-grandchild, Matthew Daniel Vargas.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Beech Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Stewart Simms and Dr. James Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, at Bernstein.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beech Haven Baptist Church, 2390 W. Broad St., Athens, GA 30606, or St. Mary's Hospice House, 1660 Jennings Mill Road, Bogart, GA 30622.
