At last, I have found my mother's dear friend, Connie Bray! Connie and I have exchanged notes and cards every Christmas since my mother became ill in 1993. Mother died ten years later but Connie and I continued our notes. Last year, I didn't receive her card and today I have found out why. My mother loved Connie and they were dear friends for many years. They worked together at Michael Bros. in the book shop, but their association continued long after that. Connie was jolly and happy, and our entire family loved her. She has been missed, but I know now that she and my mother are together again, laughing and chatting over a cup of coffee, just like those early years of their friendship. God bless.

Dear Becky, Ralph and John,

I have been thinking of you and your families at this sad time. You have to feel comforted with all the love expressed for your wonderful Mother. I feel privileged to have known her.

Both of your parents hold such a special place in my heart. The years I worked with Connie, first in the book department at Belk's and then with them at The Book Center were very special. Not only did they teach me a lot about how to run a business but by example taught me to be a better person. Though we lost touch through the years I always remember them both with love.

Connie will be missed by everyone who ever met her. Her smile, sense of humor and most of all her sincere kindness made her a friend to all.

She will always be in my heart!

Connie became my mentor and friend in 1970 when I was assigned to research the history of the newly restored Taylor-Grady House. She graciously shared her family's materials, bringing them to her cubbyhole in the book department at Belk where I read and hand-copied. While I was learning about the Taylors, Berriens, Bollings, Delonys, Nesbitts and a retinue of other early Georgia families from Connie, I was experiencing the joys of her dynamic personality, cheerful generosity, and warm friendship. I loved visiting her and Mr. Bray at The Book Center in the years following. And I was recently delighted to reconnect with her. I would like to echo Eve & Rick Mayes' message, and I wish I'd written what Hilda Byrd posted. She says so well what I feel.
Connie will live on within many, many people.

Dear Becky, I have such fond memories of your Mom. In fact, this morning she was on my mind and now I see this. I remember working with her at the Book Center on Clayton. She was always upstairs in her office overlooking the store. She was always so gracious and kind to everyone and had a laugh so radiant. Dear Ralph, John, and Becky,
Your mother was a wonderful person. She made everybody she came in contact with feel happy just being around her. From our days at Chase Street, Athens High, and when she had the bookstore in the old Citizens Drugstore spot, I always looked forward to seeing her.
I will never forget that book she had about Dante's levels of Hell-we looked at that for hours and I still dream about it sometimes.
She was a very special lady.

To the Bray family,
I have such fond memories of your mother. As a child, I could spend endless hours in The Book Center looking at books. Mrs. Bray always encouraged my love of reading and assisted me in selecting the right books for my "consumption." I can still close my eyes and picture her warm smile! My own mother worked across the street @ McLellan's so going to The Book Center was a Saturday afternoon treat I looked forward to every week as my daddy and I drove downtown to pick up mother after work.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you say your final goodbyes....

To the Bray family - I have some wonderful childhood memories of your mother and father who were our neighbors on Hillcrest (we lived on Hill). I loved walking to school and passing your Dad's truck after he returned from Benson's loaded with fresh bread. Your mom frequently called out hellos to us as we passed by as did our Aunt who lived across the street. I'm sorry for your loss.
