Opal Whitehead Dickens

High Shoals - Opal Whitehead Dickens, age 96, of High Shoals, died August 18, 2007 at her residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Wesley Whitehead and Osie Callie Gordon Whitehead. She was a member of the High Shoals Holiness Church, where her late husband, Rev. Joe Dickens, pastored for 58 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Oconee Chapel, Watkinsville. The Rev. Ty Sorrells and the Rev. Cathey Blount will officiate with Wesley Whitehead and Wendell Dawson giving eulogies. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
She is survived by a brother: Sam C. Watters of St. Mountain; nieces and nephews: Rev. Wayman & Sandra Whitehead of High Shoals, Wesley & Gymmie Whitehead of Bogart, Diane & Bobby Gosnell of Greenwood, S.C., Barbara & Jack Causey of Gainesville, Jonell & Bobby Gingell of Bristal, N.Y., John & Judy Waters of Memphis, Tenn., Karen & Carroll Tysinger of Lexington, S.C., Sam & Patrish Waters of Seneca, S.C., Donald & Billie Ruth Whitehead, Bobby & Barbara Whitehead and Joe Wesley Whitehead all of Thomasville, N.C.; several great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister: Eunice Edwards and brothers: Dr. Rev. E. C. Whitehead, Travis L. Whitehead and Joe Wesley Whitehead.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday at Oconee Chapel.
