DONALD BONDI Obituary

Bondi, Donald J., of Laguna Woods, CA, age 62, passed away Jan. 11, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. The son of the late Adolf J. Bondi and Evelyn Sellers, Don was born Jan. 9, 1951 in Shelbyville, IL and lived most of his life in Orange County, CA. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Sellers; sister, Julie Bondi; nephew, Christopher Lindekens; step-sister, Jennifer Rombal; also by Jimmie Johnson, Don's caregiver for more than 23 years, and James Green Don's life-long friend and confidant, both of whom helped Don realize an independent and fulfilling life.

Don was well recognized for his wisdom, courage and commitment to serve others, especially the elderly and persons with disabilities, as demonstrated by his 26-year career at Country Villa Health Care Laguna Hills as Recreation Director, and by his volunteer leadership roles with the Dayle McIntosh Disability Resource Center and the In Home Supportive Services Advisory Committee of Orange County.

Don was a man who met the challenges of life with determination, passion and a commitment to add kindness to the world. Gestures of sympathy in Don's memory may be made by way of a contribution to the Dayle McIintosh Center, 13272 Garden Grove Blvd., Garden Grove, 92843.

I was a school friend of Don's sister, Julie, in Mission Viejo. I always wonder what she is up to ... and if she won her bet against Don about remembering a sports player! (I don't recall if Fred Biletnikoff was the player)

To Don's family, I had the privilege of working with Don at Country Villa Laguna Hills Healthcare Center for over 18 years. I will always remember his kind spirit and funny sense of humor. I was able to attend your wonderful memorial service for Don today and what a tribute you did for him. I was glad to get to hear from the people who knew him before I knew him and how he was outside the work place. Some of the things you shared made me chuckle because I would see him do that all the time at work from the enjoying the sun to racing around in his chair. I will always remember him soaking up the sun at lunchtime! It was pleasure knowing him and my thoughts are with you and your family.

The Bondi Family. May you find comfort in Gods word at this time. God knows us better than we know ourselves, so who better to lean on at this difficult time than our creator. He is a comforter and knows how much we can bear. Isiah 61:2 jm

My Dearest Evelyn, Julie and Family, my most deapest heartfelt sympathies in the loss of Don. I'm so proud of the man he became and what he did with his life! What a thrill it was to see him a few years ago and to make his favorite, beans and 'torts with green chile. Evelyn, I just want to say, you were an amazing mother and caregiver after Don's accident as your world also changed forever. His life was changed forever but as a result, he did something positive and moved forward and changed many lives! I had the pleasure of seeing his beautiful patio cactus garden of which he took care and watered himself with the help of a straw. He made an amazing mark in this world and will be truly missed and is so loved. I pray God's peace, comfort and strength for you all. In Christ's Abundant Love, Robin

I met Don over the phone when I worked for Dial-a-Ride/ACCESS. Turns out we were also in the 3rd grade together at Finley School. We got together a couple times for lunch, but life was busy for both of us. I will always admire his courage and his kindness. I know God welcomes you with open arms Don!!
