Wright, Robert G.
February 23, 1924 - April 20, 2014
Beloved husband and father, Robert G. Wright passed away peacefully at home on Easter morning, April 20, 2014 with his family at his side. Bob was born in North Dakota to Jack and Elizabeth Wright. He was the survivor of childhood polio and despite its lifelong effects, his steadfast nature allowed him to become an Eagle Scout and to serve in the United States infantry during World War II.
He was called to a life of service, especially through education. He attended and graduated from Whittier College before earning his Master's degree in Education from U.S.C.
While at Whittier College, he served as Student Body President. It was there that he met Helene May Lawson. Their marriage of 67 years began on June 15, 1947. Bob liked to say that he got both his B.A. and Mrs. from Whittier.
Bob and Helene made their home in La Habra, California. Bob was a well loved and respected principal for the East Whittier City School District. Serving thirty years there, he opened and administered three new schools.
Bob and Helene raised three sons, Richard, David, and Timothy. A dedicated professional and a man committed to community service, he nevertheless found time to nurture and support those he loved at home. He was the rock, the foundation upon which his family found hope, encouragement, and direction. Lovingly we called him our very own Saf-T-Net
Giving a vibrant meaning to "retirement" he began a life of community involvement upon moving to San Clemente in 1986. An active member of Saint Andrew's By-the-Sea United Methodist Church, he was a member or chair of a number of committees. Bob was particularly proud of the years when Summer Concerts on the Hill were offered free and everyone was invited. His 'first love', however was the honor of signing in and out hundreds of children who attended Vacation Bible School over the years.
Additionally, he served on the Human Affairs Committee for the City of San Clemente. It was there that he met and cherished new friends whose sole purpose was to serve the betterment of our community. That role became a prominent part of his natural desire to contribute to the well being of others t.h rough service.
This sketch of some highlights of his life cannot capture his most important legacy. Bob's greatest pleasure was in watching other people grow and succeed. He was a people -builder, a humble man of God whose courage and example quietly touched countless people 's lives.
