Howard Love Obituary
Love, Howard H., 1914- 2010, was born in Provo, Utah, to Hugh Evans Love and Emma Gee , on November 19, 1914. When he was a young child his family moved to the Pahranagat Valley, near Hiko, Nevada. There he learned how to work hard on the ranch alongside his dad and his grandpa, Charles Love. He loved to talk also about the fun he had on the ranch and his horse named Blackie. Howard manifested a fierce independence born, in part, of his rural upbringing. When the family moved to Salt Lake in his early teenage years, he always worked. He graduated from LDS High School, where he excelled as a student and as a champion tennis player. During the depression he spent time with his father in Marysville, CA and paternal grandmother in Gardena, CA before he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp, CCC. He worked on various projects involving manual labor including the building of bridges and roadways in the Whiskey town region of Shasta County. With the onset of World War II, Howard joined the US Army's intelligence branch. After the war he continued intelligence work in post-war Germany. Upon his return to the United States, Howard eventually settled in Southern California and enrolled in the University of Southern California, receiving a degree in pharmacy. He practiced pharmacy at a number of locations, including the Balboa Island Pharmacy and owned several drug stores himself. Howard loved to travel the world. Trips included the Caribbean, China, New Zealand, Central America and a 6 mo. long sailing adventure to Tahiti. He lived for over 50 years in Corona del Mar, Ca and watched it grow from a sleepy seaside town to the bustling city it is today. Howard is survived by a niece and three nephews. His parents and two sisters, Helen Nogue and Irene Glade, preceded him in death. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, great uncle, great great uncle and friend. His motto was, "You know it; now do the right thing." The family wishes to express gratitude to his wonderful neighbors and friends; particularly to Jim Eastman, Stacy Frias, and to Kevin Thomas, who cared for him day and night throughout his last years until he died on October 3rd, 2010 peacefully at his home just 6 weeks before his 96th birthday. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Newport Beach City Library at 1000 Alvacado Ave. NPB, CA 92660 or USC School of Pharmacy. Pacific View Mortuary
