Edward Green Obituary

Green, Edward, founder of Green's Glass in Garden Grove, passed away October 21, 2010 at his home in Santa Ana, He died peacefully with his family by his side. Ed, his wife, Agnes and daughters Sherri, Laurie, and Susan, came to California from Canada in 1964. The day they arrived Ed began work at Model Glass in Costa Mesa. In 1968 Ed and a fellow Canadian, Jim Twedell, opened a glass shop in Anaheim at the old Toys R Us location on Harbor. Mr. Twedell retired and Ed's wife Agnes became an integral part of the business. In 1972 they moved the business to Garden Grove, Chapman/Harbor location. The business continued there until 2006 when the city purchased the property to build the Sheraton Hotel. The family purchased property at Chapman/ Haster and built a new building which is where the family will continue to operate. Ed trained his daughters at a young age to help at the glass shop. They have remained at their father's side and have been operating the business for several years. Ed never lost touch with his Canadian buddies. Every October for 40 years they have met to fish, hunt, or just swap tales. As a youngster, Ed was interested in sports. He played Canadian amateur hockey, and was on the Canadian amateur golden glove boxing team. Ed left home at 16 years old to work in the uranium mines in the North-West Territories, After several months in the mines with frigid cold, he signed on as the cook's helper just to stay warm. He moved a little south to Alaska where he worked on the Alaska pipeline and the Trans Canada Highway. In 1957, Ed's father called him back to Edmonton to start a glass business. Ed and his father worked together for several years until he ventured on his own and started his own company in Camrose, Canada. This is where he met Agnes. When Agnes left to attend the University of Alberta, Ed just happened to find a job very close to the University. Thus, a relationship and a new life began. They lived on an acreage outside of Edmonton for several years. Ed trained riding horses for the stables and rode in the rodeo circuit He competed in the bucking bronco events. After many broken bones, and realizing 8 seconds on a bucking bronco is a long time; he settled into raising a family. Ed is survived by his wife, Agnes of 50 years; daughters, Sherri Green, Laurie Hayes (Rich), Susan Maddison (Paul); grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Jennifer, Kendra, Nicholas, Joseph, one sister, Carol, and one brother, Jerry. Ed was a solid member of the community. He was a member of the LOOM for 25 years. He will be remembered as a generous, kind, bighearted man. He was respected by all. "Mr. Green" you will be deeply missed. Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. at St Callistus Church 12921 Lewis St. Garden Grove 714-971-2141.

Dear Agnes, Sherri Laurie and Susan.and all the Grandchildren. Eddie is in our hearts. He has given so much to make our life a better place. There are not enough words to express our sorrow. I have many memories of singing with Eddie at the Westminster Bowling Alley. Even though I could not sing Eddie would always sing with me. I remember his joking about being in my closet. When I would have him come over to install mirror closet doors. Our hearts are hurting. and he will be missed. However he will always be with us in sprit. Are Prayers are with you.

The USC Trojan Baseball Alumni wishes to celebrate the life of a true Canadian American. I fell in love with Canada and the Canadian people in 1964 when I played in the summer in Edmonton Albert. I stayed at the University of Alberta and enjoyed every minute of that summer. The life of Ed Green is a story of acheivment at every level of life. I am always amazed at the stories of the "everyday Joe" who is really famous in his circle of his family, friends and business associates. Our organization is new but we celebrate the life of good people. May your days be filled with great memories of Mr. Green. In baseball there's a saying about a good player whose dedicated to the game..."he has a good face." It apllies here. Sheldon Andrens, Trojan Baseball Alumni Association.
