Shaheen, Helen After battling cancer for over 15 years, Helen Shaheen passed away on December 21, 2010 at Saint Jude Hospital in Fullerton, California surrounded by her loving family. Helen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Shaheen; her four children, Caryn and her husband Larry, Joe and his wife Cathleen, Christine and her husband Anthony and David and his wife Elisa; as well as her six grandchildren, Robyn and her husband Seth, Jaclyn, Nicole, Samantha, Brian and Christopher. The daughter of Jesse and Marisha Saba, Helen was born on April 8, 1931 in Methuen, Massachusetts. It was there where she met Joseph Shaheen, who she married at the age of 21. Helen and Joseph are often described as the perfect couple; they moved to La Habra, California in 1956 where they established their home and raised their family. Helen lived her life as a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Habra. Helen is remembered as a very caring and loving spouse, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was always there to support her family, friends and relatives in their time of need. In honor of Helen, a viewing will be held at Queen of Heaven Mortuary in Rowland Heights on Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 4:00-8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service and mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Habra on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please remember Helen by helping fight the disease that took her life; contributions can be made to the Helen Shaheen Memorial Fund at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center: (323) 865-0665.
