HERLINDA SULLIVAN Obituary

Sullivan, Herlinda "Linda" Perez March 10, 1928 to October 14, 2010 Our beloved wife and mother, Linda Sullivan of Anaheim, passed away on October 14, 2010 at the age of 82. She was the oldest of three children born in the small town of Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico to Eleuterio Perez Galvan and Guadalupe Perez Gamboa. The family later moved to Mexico City D.C. where she graduated from Instituto Politecnico Nacional and began her professional career there as a Pharmacist. She was married in Mexico City in 1951 to Joseph Patrick Sullivan from Detroit, Michigan and later moved to California. Linda worked as a Medical Researcher and Coordinator of the Artificial Insemination Program at UC Irvine Medical Center for 16 years before opening Orange County's first Sperm Bank in Santa Ana, one of the few independent facilities in the country at the time. She was the author or coauthor of 12 papers in the field, an accomplished speaker and active member of Toastmasters. Linda was an intelligent, dynamic, and gracious woman, widely recognized for her leadership and unselfish service to the community. She received numerous awards including Hispanic Woman of the Year in 1980 from the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). She was co-founder and first elected President of the Orange County chapter of MANA, a national Latina organization, and was chosen to represent them as a delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Aging. Linda loved people and enjoyed helping others, especially women and children. She designed a series of dolls called Positive Images to encourage girls to imagine opportunities in non-traditional careers. She was generous with her time and money and was a tireless volunteer in the community for such organizations as Planned Parenthood, Santa Ana School Board, and Rancho Santiago College. Linda is survived by Patrick, her husband of nearly 60 years; four children, Brian Sullivan and wife Debbie of Newport Beach, Eric Sullivan and wife Lauren of Santa Barbara, Dr. Laura Sullivan and husband Jon Krohngold of Cypress, Kevin Sullivan and wife Mary and their daughter Avery of Anaheim. She is predeceased by her brother, Ramon Perez Gamboa and survived by five half-brothers and sisters in Southern California. A memorial service will be held at the Hilgenfeld Mortuary in Anaheim on Saturday, November 13 at 2 p.m.

She was a great friend and boss. She always had something good to say of others. We had many good times with her and Patrick. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you last days, but I always had her in prayers. May she rest in peace.

Indeed a wonderful human being and a beloved woman she was. I hold precious memories of Linda. Her beautiful smile, always ready to greet you. The sound advise she would provide. Her love and pride of her Mexican heritage. How she loved to dance to Mariachi music. I could go on and on, and I'm sure that the sweet and wonderful memories you have of your mother will hold you through this painful time and will bring a smile to your face, along with some tears, but they will be tears of pride, because your mother was loved and loved others and was genuine in all aspects. God has received another angel into his kingdom. May she rest in peace.
