James Nix Obituary

Nix, James, was born March 2nd, 1918 in Ingraham, Illinois. He was a graduate of Montebello High School in 1935 and then went on to complete his studies at UCLA and obtained his B.S in Business Administration in 1939. James worked for the US Rubber Plant in Los Angeles for 3 years until he was drafted into the US Army and served for 3 years. During that time he was stationed in Oregon and in 1944, he was deployed to Oran, Algeria as well as Italy. While in the Army, he served 3 campaigns - Rome-Arno, North Apennines Mountains and Poe Valley. He then completed 3 months of occupational duty in Trieste. After the war, James traveled to the Pacific and spent 34 years working in customer relations for the Pacific Telephone Company after which he retired in 1980 and moved to Orange County a year later. James was an avid traveler, having gone on 8 trips to Europe, 2 to Asia, as well as Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska. James was a Primary Donor of Nix Nature Center at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and Nix Garden at Anderson Graduate Business School at UCLA. He was also an active participant at the Florence Sylvester Senior Center. James passed away on March 16th, 2014 and was preceded in death by his son, Paul Nix. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rosemarie; daughter, Elaine and her husband Richard; his 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Nix Nature Center in Laguna Canyon. More information to come.
