LAFAYETTE PARKIN Obituary

Parkin, Lafayette Sharp, 74, passed away on September 12, 2012. Lafe was born on August 26, 1938 in Thomas, Idaho. He met his sweetheart, Patricia, while in high school. After serving a mission in the U.K. for the LDS Church, Lafe married Pat in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1961 and attended the University of Utah where he earned a J.D. In 1969, Lafe and Pat moved to Southern California where he practiced law and served in many positions in their LDS ward, stake, and temple. He was loved by all he served.

Lafe lived a vibrant, full life. He sought out beauty and adventure everywhere he went, from bike rides along the coast to the High Sierras. As an avid reader, he pursued new knowledge and understanding every day. His humor and selfless compassion lightened the burdens of many around him. He loved his wife and family dearly. Lafe is survived by his wife, Pat and his children, Shaun, Natasha, Matthew, Jared, Amy, Jenilyn and Josh; his daughters-in-law, Alice, Casey and Sonja; his sons-in-law, Mark and Ryan; his 25 grandchildren; his sisters, Mary and Cynthia; and his brothers, John and Stan.

Services will be held at the Newport Beach LDS Stake Center, 2150 Bonita Canyon Rd, Newport Beach at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, for whom Lafe raised money this summer.

Lafe and I served together in the British Mission in 1959. Lafe and I were companions for a short time and served together in the Liverpool District. He was an outstanding missionary. From that experience with him,I knew he would make a meaningful contribution to the church, family and community. Richard Duce, [email protected]

Serving at the Newport Beach Temple is a delight - we LOVE President Parkin. I always told Kathy, "We are going to have a party with Heavenly Father" - every Saturday night. President Parkin was a part of that. Thank you Predident.

To President Parkin's family: I am so sorry to learn of Lafe's passing. He was my late brothers personal attorney many years ago and handled my parents estate. I got to see him at the Newport Temple several times and he remembered me. He was always very kind and gracious. The Celestial Kingdom has gained a great man. My deepest sympathy to all of you.
