MARY RUSSO Obituary

Russo, Mary, was born Maria Felicia Russo on March 12, 1902 in Deans, New Jersey and died Nov. 4, 2010 at the Town and Country Manor, Santa Ana, California, having reached the great age of 108 years 8 months. Mary never married but spent her entire life helping others including her extended family members, church and community organizations, and those she came in contact during her 60 years operating her hair dresser business in New Jersey and California. Her wise counsel and at times financial aid made a positive difference in the lives of many individuals in the business and religious world including professors, nuns and priests. Mary was the second of nine children born to Pasquale Russo and Anna Maria Pirrone, immigrants of the USA from the Basilicata Region of So. Italy. Mary was an excellent cook an on many weekends she would be found in the kitchen with her mother and sisters preparing the traditional Italian dinners for family get togethers Because of her exceptional memory and intellect, the Institute for Brain Aging and Dementia, UCI, requested her participation in their 95+ study and the donation of her brain. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, San Dimas, California Saturday, Nov. 27th at 2pm.

Mary Russo was very special to all of us who had the honor to know her. She was a very loving and giving person. She devoted her life to loving God and to helping people who were less fortunate. She led a simple life of giving to others, loving people unconditionally and generously for she never cared about possessions or having expensive things. Her wealth was in her heart and she will always be remembered for that. She was my great aunt and she was loved because of her genuine honesty, love, devotion to others, and because she made me feel special. I will always remember her laughter. If anyone truely is deserving to go to Heaven, then it is surely her. God Bless and keep her.

I also felt compelled to write after reading Mary's obituary. It makes me happy and hopeful to know that there was someone who dedicated her life to helping others in this world for so long and sad to know that I never got to meet her. May she guide others to follow in her footsteps from Gods Kingdom above.
