Mason Fenton Obituary

The Honorable Mason L. Fenton (Ret) Mason died December 7, 2010 at St Joseph Hospital with family and friends by his side. He was born January 27, 1936 in Santa Ana, California to Ella and Charlie Fenton. He attended Orange High School. He continued his education at the University of Southern California graduating in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. After college he attended the University of California, Hastings College of Law graduating in 1962. Mason began his legal career in the Orange County district attorney's office. From 1965 to 1974, he was a sole practitioner in the city of Orange and ultimately became a Judge for the Orange County Superior Court where he served for over 21 years. Mason was a well respected lawyer and jurist and he was proud to have served his clients and the citizens of California. As one lawyer put it "He does not look over his shoulder when he is judging." His family and friends will attest that he lived his life the exact same way. Mason is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; their three children, Craig, Chuck (Angela), Missy (Rafer); and 7 grandchildren, Jackson 13, Mason 11, Matthew 6, Grace 7, Sarah 6, Jacob 5 and Gavin 2. Mason lived by the motto "work hard and play hard". He loved boating with his family, riding his Harley Davidson and of course Trojan Football. His memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Orange, 161 S Orange St, Orange, CA at 2 pm Tuesday, December 14. After the service, we will continue the celebration at Moreno's Restaurant 4328 East Chapman Avenue, Orange CA. Brown Colonial Mortuary

Dear Mary, I only met you one time at the class reunion for our 50th class reunion. Mason was in my fourth grade class when I arrived in California from Texas. I always loved the guy. He was my favorite person to compete with in finishing my math homework. His father came and took movies of us.
I went to school with him through half of our junior year in high school. I'm sure you are missing him greatly.
My sympathy is with you, your children and grandchildren. Jessie Thomas Ashby Bonds in Sanger, TX

Dear Mason's Family--Mason was always part of my childhood. (Marilyn and I went to school to together from 1st grade on.) Mason was in the same class as my brother. He and his cousins were in Mom's Cub Scout Den and they spent a lot time at our house on South Cypress way back then.
I am sorry for your loss.

Dear Mary and family. My heartfelt prayers are with you as you work through this grieving process. I have known Mason since 1940, when we both entered West Orange Elementary and he was one of my best and closest friends through graduation from OUHS in 1953. Even though after that our lives went in different directions, we kept in touch and I was always proud to have him as a friend. I know now that he is in a safe and loving place, a place where you may all be reunited in an eternal family relationship with the Lord. May this journey be an easier one for you is my prayer. Mary and Family,
Mason was a classmate from 7th grade on - from the great year in Elva Chaffer's class at Intermediate. Such a gentleman, always. Mason was the teenager who always smiled and had a gracious hello for the mothers of all his friends.
