Nathaniel Borden Obituary

Borden, Nathaniel T. Born on May 26, 1988, Nate passed away on June 11 in a tragic accident while a student at the Jacksonville, FL Commercial Diving Academy. A lifelong resident of Huntington Beach, he was a graduate of Smith Elementary School, Dwyer Middle School, and in 2006, Huntington Beach High School. Always an exceptional athlete, Nate enjoyed baseball and football in HB youth leagues, played football at HBHS, and was well known county-wide as Captain of the Huntington Beach Oiler Wrestling Team. As an Oiler he was twice Varsity MVP, Sunset League, CIF and Masters champion. An accomplished surfer, Nate was an instructor at Corky Carroll's Surf School both at State Beach and in Costa Rica. Nate was the loving son of William T. Borden, Jr. And Phyeeda Freestone, brother of Tiffani Borden and Ambyr Freestone, grandson of Deborah and William T. Borden, Sr of Huntington Beach, Linda and Richard Gallant of Oakwood Ohio, and Melanie Wilson of Huntington Beach . He was deeply loved by his Aunt Phaedra Wilson and step father Ben Dreyer of Huntington Beach, Aunt and Uncle Kathleen and Philip Poteat of Marina del Rey, Uncle Edward Borden of Oakwood, Ohio, numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends locally and nationwide. He was not ours to keep forever; but only sent here for us to know and love. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage-Dilday Memorial Services Friday June 17th at 3 pm. Jake grew up with my gf Crystal and her family. He was like a brother to all of them and I saw how much they all loved him. You are very missed Nate. Jake, Cody, Jim, Crystal and Katelyn all miss you very much. I hope you always shine down on them all from heaven.

This may sound loony, but when I read about your son...he and your family struck a chord within my heart. I have a daughter, Tabitha, born on May 26, 1988. Her aunts and uncles also reside in the suburbs of Dayton, OH. I didn't know your son, but he and your family will remain in my heart, my memory, and my prayers.

Phyeeda, Benny and the entire Borden Family are in our prayers, and we mourn with you such a great loss of your child, brother, grandson and friend. Nate was a tremendous young man, and many were blessed by his short life. God Bless you and hold you close at this very difficult time.

My son was a classmate of Nate, he spoke so highly of him. He was going to be one of the ones that made it in the dive world. My thoughts and prayers have gone out to your families loss. I know as a parent of a child that has chosen this profession you had prepared somewhat for the danger, never thinking of this. I hope you know, that I am just wrapping your family in prayers, even though I don't know you< just a common bond of a diver/student/parent. With heart felt sorrow. Ellen Kyser
