Paul Panagotacos Obituary

Panagotacos, Paul, 91 years old, passed away on Oct. 17th, 2010 peacefully in his home in Yorba Linda, CA. Paul was born on June 21, 1919 in Johnstown, PA. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh after which he enlisted in the Army. He fought in WWII in the European Theater and received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations. After the war he traveled extensively throughout Europe where he met his wife to be, Irene Schnellinger, whom he married on Aug. 26, 1957. They moved to Ligonier, PA. where they lived for 5 years and had 3 children. But after enduring many cold winters they moved to California, raised their 3 children in Yorba Linda and remained happily married for 54 years. Paul devoted his life to education, teaching at Anaheim High School and later adult education at North Orange County Community College. During his 40 years he taught with a passion and a zest for life to the many students he loved so much. His way of teaching was fun and full of life and it reflected the way he was, a happy man who loved to laugh and tell a good joke. His motto was "a day without laughter was a day wasted". He could relate to so many people through his knowledge of 5 languages. He found joy and happiness at home with his family and was such a great influence and mentor to his 3 children. He touched many peoples lives and added joy and happiness to their lives. Paul is survived by his wife, Irene; his three children, George, Stephen and Daphne; and two grandchildren, Tiahna and Shalynne. We will miss him but find comfort in knowing he is at peace with his father, George; mother, Katina; sisters, Anna, Aliki and Diana. We will love him always and forever. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Mr. "P" was one of my favorite customers when I worked at Vons. I used to tease him about not finishing the book that he kept his coupons in. He told me it was really good so he liked to read it slow.

Herr "Pete" was one of my favorite and most memorable teachers at Anaheim High. I have never forgotten his great sense of humor and his words of wisdom. To this day, I still can hear him saying "Mit always takes the dative!"

To the Pantagotacos family

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Paul. I had the pleasure of working with him at the Wilshire SCE When he Sub in our class room. He always stopped and talked with me and made me laugh when he was on campus. He loved to talk and make jokes and come and teach. He will be missed greatly.

I worked with Paul at Yorba Linda campus many moons ago. He was the funniest and happiest person you could hope to meet. He would always joke with me and ask to 'break bread' He was always sweet and kind. He will be missed. May memories of him bring us joy. Shannnon E

I met Paul only a few times when he came into Cypress SCE to sub for one of our instructors. He always arrived early, was always glad to be here and very much a positive influence to all who crossed his path. Certainly he will be missed.
