Rhonda Newman

Newman, Rhonda, was born on January 5th, 1955 in San Bernardino CA. She passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2010 at her home in Irvine, after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. Rhonda was a graduate of Edison High School in Huntington Beach, CA and received her teaching credentials from California State University Long Beach. Rhonda started her teaching career in 1978 and taught kindergarten through third grade. She loved young children and once commented that she knew she was getting older when she started teaching children whose parents she had taught years before. Rhonda considered her two cats, Misty and Kaleena her children and constantly babied them. She was also a foster care mother for many years and continued to relish those relationships. Rhonda was close to her family and took great pride in her two nephews Brandon and Blake. She had many great memories of them spending the weekends with her when they were young. Rhonda was active in the Assistance League of Irvine for many years and also volunteered at Mariners Church in Irvine, where she worked in the nursery, served as an usher and worked as an assistant in the office. Rhonda is survived by her mother, Eileen Newman-Dickerson (Chuck); her father, Donald Newman (Bonnie); her brother, Del Newman (Pat); her nephew; Brandon Newman (Alisa); her nephew, Blake Newman, her great-nephew Charlie Newman and her great-niece Ciera Newman. A memorial to celebrate Rhonda's life will be held at Mariners Church, 5001 Newport Coast Dr, Irvine CA 92603, on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
