ROBERT FREDERICK WINGARD

Wingard, Robert (Bob) Frederick, 80, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2013 at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills California. Bob was born on September 16, 1932 in Charlevoix Michigan to Ernest Wingard and Fannybelle Wingard.

Bob grew up in Holland, Michigan and graduated from Holland High School in Holland, Michigan in 1950. After graduating high school Bob attended Hope College for 2 years before joining the Air Force where he served for 3 years as a Staff Sergeant in Alaska. Upon completion of his military service, Bob returned to college earning his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1959. Following graduation Bob began his career with the Los Angeles County Flood Control and then moved on to the County of Orange where he worked 30 years, mainly as the Director of Harbors, Beaches and Parks Department.

Bob will always be remembered for his dry but witty humor, his ability to succeed at anything he tried and his willingness to help those who wished to help themselves.

Bob is survived by his wife, Hualin Hsu-Wingard of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; his sons, Mark, Danny and Billy; stepson, Derek Wu and stepdaughter, Katherine Wu; all of Orange County, California; his brothers, Charles and John, both of Holland, Michigan; along with a grandson, granddaughters, nieces and nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix, Michigan on June 10, 2013 at 11am. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in Dana Point Harbor on June 26, 2013 at 10am.
