Gottlieb, Bernard V. "Bernie", of Anaheim, age 88 (professionally known as popular orchestra leader Bernie Bernard), passed of natural causes on 2/4/2013. He was born on 8/8/1924 in Joliet, Illinois, son of Albert and Frieda (Papock) Gottlieb, deceased.

He was a veteran of World War II and his accomplishments include: 3 times national champion on clarinet in Las Cruces, New Mexico, graduate of USC, AEPI Fraternity brother, had his own CBS affiliate radio show featuring Bernie Gottlieb & the Key Notes from Los Alamos, N.M, played with Tommy Dorsey, Benny Carter & his all white band, Sterling Young Orchestra, owned the Fullerton Bowling Alley, built and owned the Anaheim Freeway Bowl, was a partner with Bud Long of Anaheim , V.J. Long Construction (they built Anaheim Visser's Florist , 60 car washes, Anaheim Law building), a realtor broker, Life Member of the Shriners, former Anaheim Elk, served as President of the American Society of Professional Estimators L.A. Chapter 1, Life Member of National Musicians Union L.A. Chapter, Member of Local 7 Musicians Union, V.P. and Chief Construction Engineer of 1st Interstate Bank of CA retiring in 1986. His 36 piece orchestra (60's & 70's) backed the stars at Disneyland for 12 seasons plus his 9 piece orchestra played to sold out crowds for 12 New Year's Eve dinner dances at Disneyland Hotel. Bernie's big band music was always a hit and his orchestra played for stars Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, Andy Williams, Vicki Carr, Patti Page, Kaye Starr, Righteous Brothers, Jackson 5 & Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, Theresa Brewer, Della Reese, Engelbert Humperdinck, Phyllis Diller, Lena Horn, Bing Crosby, Bo Jangles "tap dancer with Shirley Temple." Bernie was MR. MUSIC for many years for Southern California Balls and Events. Comedian/star Red Skelton & Bernie were at Camp Roberts together, Bernie backed Red on numerous shows. His clarinet was donated to a deserving student at Cal State Fullerton. Knott's Berry Farm's opening of the Roaring 20's and KTLA's television show was coordinated by Bernie who provided the music for the televised and opening of Knott's with Tommy Walker of Disneyland. Bernie also played the saxophone. He could play in any key on moment notice. His peers had great respect for his musical genius. Bernie loved to tell jokes, was quick witted, fun and made those around him laugh. He gave sage advice and adored his family and pets. He and Jo An enjoyed their Island Park, Idaho home for nearly 30 years, where he received a National Honor for heading up the Planning and Zoning Advisory Committee to preserve Island Park and the Targhee Forest.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 52 years Jo An Burdick-Gottlieb; son, Michael A. Gottlieb of Anaheim; daughter, Shannon (Robert) Dominguez of Maui; his sister, Ruth (Mandel) Siegall; niece, Alicia (Mary) Siegall; nephews, David Siegall and Marc (Linda) Siegall; great nephew, Maxon Siegall; nephew, Brad (Keri) Stankey; great niece, Charity Scott; niece, Shawn Stankey (Sal) Roman; great niece & nephew, Arielle and Andrew J. Roman; sister-in-law, Linda Burdick Roberts. No services per his humble request.
