Auke Johannes Jacobus Hansma

Hansma, Auke Johannes Jacobus 89 Dec. 18, 1922 March 16, 2012 Auke J.J. Hansma was born in The Netherlands to Johanness J.J. Hansma and Christina L. ter Beek. He moved to Portland in 1946. That was the same year Auke met and married his beloved Mary Faith Frank. They were married 66 wonderful years. Auke and Mary loved to travel. He also played the sax, was an avid painter, photographer and reader. Auke was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He also was a ham radio operator and was the author of a book "50 Years of Memories." He worked as a chief clerk for many years for the Union Pacific Railroad. Aukie also loved the colorful rhododendrons he planted in his yard in honor of his beloved wife, Mary. Aukie is survived by his spouse, Mary Faith; a step-grandson, Michael Pirich; and two step-great-grandchildren, Ava Elizabeth and Louise Pirich. He was predeceased by his brother, Yoob Hansma; and stepchildren, Mary Louise Pirich and Charles Ulysses Roberts. A celebration of life was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. The family wishes to thank the staff at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center who took such wonderful, loving care of Auke. Also a special thank you to Serenity Hospice for their tender loving care and harp vigil during the last hours of Auke's life. Also many thanks to the staff of Always at Home Care, who transported Mary Faith every day to visit with her beloved Auke. Auke was truly loved and will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate to have known him.
