Richard Daniel Stoinoff

Stoinoff, Richard Daniel 89 Mar. 31, 1925 Nov. 21, 2014 Richard Daniel Stoinoff passed away unexpectedly Nov. 21, 2014, at his vacation home in Palm Springs, Calif., at 89 years of age. Rick was born in Portland to Pete and Constance Stoinoff. His parents had emigrated from Macedonia and his heritage became an interest of his later in life. The family owned and ran Eastmoreland Grocery store. Rick attended Duniway grade school and graduated from Washington High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He remained active in organizing WHS class picnics at Oaks Park every summer. During WWII, Rick served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1949. He was a member of the ATO Fraternity, from which he made many lifelong friends. Rick worked at Eastmoreland Grocery until 1960, when he switched careers and started working as a stockbroker at Dean Witter. He also worked at Adams, Hess, Moore and Strand, Atkinson. His interest in investments continued for the rest of his life. He is survived by his wife, Ellen of Lake Oswego; daughter, Jane of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Harry of Portland; and beloved nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marilee, also of Portland. He will also be greatly missed by Ellen's children and grandchildren. Rick enjoyed people and had an unending curiosity. He was never one who could sit still for very long. During his life, he was active in handball, jogging, skiing, camping, hiking, tennis, golf and travel. He truly valued and deeply appreciated the relationships in his life and we know that each and every one of you had a special place in his heart. A celebration of life reception will be held at noon Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at the Multnomah Athletic Club, Portland, where he was a member for 53 years.
