To the Howell Family:
It is a tremendous shock to me to hear about Calvin's passing. My memories of him playing bass, lifting weights, playing football, running track and fishing are cherished. Our childhood in Omaha is remembered fondly. I have missed him over the years and will miss him even more now! My condolences and prayers are with the family.

Dear Diana,
It was a tremendous shock to me to hear that Calvin is no more and I am sure it is a big shock for you as well as your children. I just could not believe it. My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to you and your family. It was always such a joy to see the two of you together and the love you shared for each other when I moved to Reno in 2004. I feel good that I got to see him one last time when you visited Reno last summer. Calvin was such a source of inspiration and his smile and laughter was just so contagious. A truly great person and a Boddhisatva of this earth who will be missed forever. I am chanting for you and your family to have the strength and courage to face this tough time in your lives.
Regards,
Priya

Having met Calvin in a chance encounter, I immediate realized that Calvin was an outstanding human being that I wanted on my team. This was several decades ago. It did not take long for Calvin to exceed even our highest expectation. Calvin was a straight up guy that set the bar for honesty and integrity. I have lost a friend and the Optical industry has lost a real professional. My deepest condolences to his family.

I had the good fortune of knowing Calvin through our optical band Offaxis. I was his drummer and friend. He inspired me to be a better musician, father, organizer and person all around. I spoke to him for a while just last Tuesday and am so sad I won't be playing with him again. I'lllook forward to a sweet jam together in the next life. My condolences to the family. He was a great man!!!

Diane and Family, Calvin and I went back many years in the Optical Industry. Knowing him was truly a joy and knowing that he is no longer with us, we should celebrate his life and how he lived his life. He always had a great smile and a story. We are blessed to have had him in our lives and I know he loved his family. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,

Diana and Family, I have know Calvin for close to 20 years and am so shocked to hear this sad news. What a true gentleman he was. We were typically competitors but I always looked forward to seeing him at the trade shows and spending a few minutes with him. Calvin was always upbeat and positive and just someone I loved to consider a friend.
My sincere sympathy goes out to you and your family and may Gods blessing and gentle hand comfort you in this time of need.
Best Always,

Calvin was an excellent business colleague, who I wish I had gotten the chance to know more on a personal level. Excellent musician, fantastic businessman and a trusted colleague. He will be missed.

I met Calvin and his lovely wife Diana almost 6 years ago in Reno. What a senstitive, caring and compassionate man. He was so proud of his wife and children.
He was just as proud of the SGI-USA Youth Division members whom he treated like his children.
His kindness and consideration will live on in the hearts of ALL of the people that he touched in his short time here on this planet.
With Love, Respect and Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.

I have known Calvin for over 20 years and I can say that for many of those years he has been on my list of "close friends". He is one of the very few that I can say "I never saw him mad at anyone or anything". His demeanor was the consummate optomist and that was how he lived his life. His values, virtues and drive earned him a spot as one of our industries icons.
He will be sadly missed. His infectious smile that denoted the true person behind that smile will be forever emblazoned in my memory.
Calvin Howell....like no other! Rest in peace my friend.

Our deepest condolences to the family, we know what an unexpected challenge this must be for all of you.
It was a such a treat to get to know the Howell family during their stay in the Reno, NV area and we are sad to lose such a wonderful Buddha as Calvin. He loved music and fishing, may he catch that big one in the wonderful life we know he has created for himself with his devoted practice of Buddhism, and all that diamoku.
Loving wishes, Jim, Susan and Danny.

Calvin was one of a kind. A stellar bass player. A joyful person with a smile for everyone and a positive force. Even though we worked in the same industry, I only knew him as a musician. He will be etched in my memory forever for the two performances of a lifetime: The Joint in Las Vegas 2008 and BB Kings in New York City 2009. I will miss him very much. His music lives on.
My sincere condolences to his family.
With Love, Angela Carroll
