Craig Hodges Obituary
William (Papa) Mihm, and
Frederic Kay; nephew of Larry Kay (Christi), Mark Hodges, Brad Kay; cousin of Taylor Kay; and his cat Smokey. Craig, known as CJ, graduated from Edgewater High School in the class of 2007 and was a member of the cross country team, crew team and the student government. CPL Craig Hodges Jr., was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp serving since Feb. 11, 2008. CJ received the Sharp Shooter Award upon graduation from Boot Camp in Parris Island, SC. He graduated with honors from the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA where he studied Tagalog and where he also received the Commandant's Award. Craig enjoyed running, traveling with family, going on adventures with his sister Cathryn, and hanging with friends and family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 12 p.m., at

CJ, I still think about you often even 14 years later. When I drive, I remember the adventures we went on in Texas. And I often recall the last time we hung out together, when I got to Hawai'i. You were the person I was most excited to see. I wish we could have continued our adventures and time together there, and I always wonder about where you would be now. I miss you insanely, everyday. There is no one in this world like you.

He was an amazing person. He always stopped to talk and had a smile on his face. When you were around him you couldn't help having you mood lifted. He was an amazing Marine and he was so humble. I really admired him and you should know how deeply he impacted all the Marines who were lucky enough to know him. There aren't any words that could come close to expressing the tragedy in his passing.

Hodges was by far the best marine and person I know. He was my fire team leader, squad leader and tutored me outside of class. He was an amazing person and he was truly loved by all. A great leader and a great friend, I'll miss him. I'm praying for him and his entire family.

I can honestly say, without a doubt in my mind, that Craig Hodges was the best person, and best Marine that I have every met. He could do no wrong in my eyes, and he served as the ruler with which everyone else tried to measure up to. I attended DLI with him, he was in the Tagalog class ahead of me. He was always there, no matter the situation. Unselfish with his time or his advice. He had no enemies that I know of, no one could honestly dislike Hodges. I have never even heard a shred of rumor about him that seems so prevalent around us. He was, and still is, in my mind, a genuinely great individual. He will be missed, more than words can express. And my heart goes out to his loved ones, the pain of loss is unimaginable, but the burden is eased when we share the pain together.

I graduated with CJ from Edgewater. Although we were not close friends, I had many classes with him. CJ is an individual that I respect and that lived his life - in all areas - with happiness. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and those that were just acquaintances with him. Although we lost contact when graduating, he will continue to live on through the many memories of him.

Hodges was by far one of the most unselfish people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He put others above himself no matter the situation or who it was. He always operated at the highest levels of integrity, proficiency, diligence, and motivation. We will greatly miss his smile and the example that he set for us here. I had the absolute honor of working with CJ at Track Shack. He and I worked the counter together and it was non-stop fun. At the time I was going through breast cancer treatment and CJ always made me feel like a million dollars. He was the kindest, most thoughtful young man I had ever known. The respect he showed everyone, and the way he made us laugh was something I will never forget. Whenever he would come back to visit, he would always bring us goodies. He was a joy..a pure joy. Craig caught my eye since he was a Marine and my son is also in the Corps. When I read the obituary, I also found that my son and Craig both graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey California. We lost our 18 yr. old son 5 yrs ago this coming Monday.
