As I watch the seasons change with the passings of good people I worked alongside in Knoxville, Jim Hampton stands out. He loved TV, taking time to mentor younger people getting into the business. Also worked with him in Chattanooga. Although he's been gone for a while, I still have the shiny Disney jacket he gave me on a TV junket to Disney World back in the 90's. A fantastic colleague, a knowledgeable person, and a good friend.

What a dear, genuine and funny man we have all lost. I so enjoyed working for Jim at Universal, and bantering back and forth about his Vols and my Gators. :o)He touched so many peoples' hearts and made so many people laugh. He will be greatly missed. God Bless you Jim!

Jim Hampton was our neighbor when we lived in the same apartment complex during the time we were all Univ of TN students. Throughout these many years, we have remembered what a fantastic sense of humor he had and the funny stories that we shared. We often wished that we had kept in touch. We have never forgotten him and never will. He was a dear friend and we were so sorry to learn of his death.

Dave, Jeff and Family
My heart continues to break over the loss of Jim. He was not only one of my dearest friends, he was my partner at Universal Studios for a decade, and I learned from him, laughed with him and cried with him. He was the consummate PR pro. And he was so proud of both you, Dave & Jeff, and always kept us all updated on your careers. In time, I'm sure the hurt will lessen, but I can continue to hear, and will never forget his infectious laugh! May you rest in peace, my friend.

Jim Hampton was the kindness man I've ever met in the entertainment industry. He was my personal mentor while I worked at Universal Studios Florida. I miss our conversations and wish I could have one more. Thank you Jim for always being a friend. I pray for peace for his family at this time.

My heart truly aches. Jim was one of the most kind and thoughtful persons with which I’ve had the pleasure to work. He was the ultimate professional journalist who was committed to telling the story. He took the time to help me become a better journalist, for that, I will always be deeply grateful. Most of all, he was a friend who made me laugh and to better appreciate folk music. What fun he brought to us when he played the guitar!
David & Jeff, I’m sorry you loss your father far too soon. May you always smile when you think of fond memories with your father.

I just learned of Jim's passing. What a loss this world has suffered. Jim was a great friend from our days together at WTVK-TV, and I enjoyed our visits with him at Disney World. Jim was 10-15 years older than most of our team in Knoxville and was a great model, as a gentleman, a husband, a father, and a compassionate journalist. May his memory long be treasured. Wishing peace and comfort in the Lord to his family.

Jim is one of the world's truly nice people. I had the privilege of working with Jim at WTVK in Knoxville. He had the challenging assignment of hosting the mid-day show that WTVK ran during the World's Fair. And he was a gifted writer. He is definitely one who left us way too soon.

I only recently learned of Jim's untimely passing and was incredibly saddened to hear that such a kind and caring individual was prematurely taken from us. I had the pleasure of working with Jim and he was the consummate professional who could always be relied upon for good advice and counsel. Although it's been years since we were teammates, every time we crossed paths it was as if time had stood still and we could pick up where we left off. He will be sorely missed.

My heart is broken. Jim was my boss, mentor and dear friend. So many good memories of our time at Universal. Even in the most stressful of times, we could usually find something to laugh about. We laughed a lot. My thoughts are with his family. He was so very proud of his two sons. Every time he spoke of them he beamed with pride. Rest in peace, my friend. You are missed.

It was a privilege to have worked with Jim and have him as a friend. I am truly sorry to know that he is gone but know that he is in a better place where he no longer has to struggle or be in pain – not that he ever complained! My sincere condolences to his family - Jim will truly be missed by many.

My heart hurts about this. Jim Hampton was the consummate newsman, but added a rare quality: genuine compassion. He was intelligent and quick with a smile, but always knew the right question to ask. When we worked together at WTVK, he treated me as an equal, even though he forgot more in a day than I knew. I thought of him often, even after he left "the business" and my career continued. He set a standard for tenacity and professionalism that any journalist should emulate. I will continue to think of him for that, and just the fact Jim was one of the good guys.

To Jim's sons and family-
I was very sad to hear this news about my friend, Jim Hampton. I was a marketing photographer at Disney and Jim and I worked on a few projects together there. I used to see Jim all of the time when he worked for Disney. I really loved Jim. He was a very nice man and extremely professional as well. I also worked with him while I was a freelance photographer at Universal Studios Orlando. I have nothing but the fondest memories of Jim. I had no idea that Jim was sick, so this news has caught me by surprise. My heartfelt condolences go to David and Jeff, as well as the entire Hampton family. I will cherish many fond memories of my times working with Jim. May he rest in peace. God bless you all during this sad time. Bob Desmond
