HYATT, ROBERT C. 83, of Continental Country Club, died Wed., July 28, at his home in Wildwood. Born in Little Rock, AR, he was the son of Carl H. and Mary E. Hyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife of 46 years, Christine Frances Hyatt. A professional baseball player, Mr. Hyatt was signed as a third baseman for the Little Rock Travelers, while still in high school and played his first professional game against the Memphis Chicks at the age of 17. After a stint in the Army, he played for a number of professional teams until his retirement from the game in 1957. Following his sports career, he was a plumber for Hyatt Plumbing & Heating Co., and co-founder of the Pine Hills Boys Club. He coached Little League baseball for 20 years and is the author of "The Key to the Batter's Boy", a journal of his experiences in baseball. Survivors include three sons, Robert M. Hyatt of Titusville, Carl K. Hyatt of Los Angeles, and Richard L. of New Port Richey; and two daughters, Vicki Dixon of Ocala and Jacki Rowe of Longwood; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jean (Duke) Doolittle of Gulf Shores, AL and Anne (Robert J.) Welch of Lenoir, NC; and many nieces and nephews. The family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Sumter Co., in lieu of flowers. So sorry about the typo. I should have caught that. The correct title of Bob's book is "The Key to the Batter's Box". It was so hard to say goodbye to Bob, who was not only a fine man but the best brother ever, He was my very best buddy and I will miss him terribly.
