I am so sorry to hear this news. I just learned of David's passing this morning and I can't believe it. David was always a huge part of Writer's Fest for me. Always friendly and learned about all the books around him. The festival won't be the same without David. My deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Nicole,
Heartfelt condolences to you and your family, from all of us at the Wakefield La Pêche Writers Festival. We so appreciated David's vibrancy and great love of the written word and writers, his bonhomie, and the way he always went above and beyond in helping and mentoring us. With you by his side. We will remember him.
Thanks, David, for helping to make our last year's inaugural Festival such as success. Read on, good friend.

In the late 70s, working together downstairs in Shirley Leishman Books, Dave and I had many rousing literary discussions. Dave hosted the launch of my travel memoir, House Inside the Waves at Nick Hoare Books. He became one of Ottawa's premiere book sellers, even when bookstores started to disappear. Dave will be missed by all Ottawa book lovers.

David was a great supporter of Bywords, doing more than he had to do to ensure that our chapbooks were available at the Writers Fest book table. he was easy to work with & always friendly. it's going to be odd not seeing him at the festival. he made a vital contribution to Ottawa's literary community. my condolences to his family & friends.

I am a stranger to his surviving family, but also a grateful customer of longstanding. I knew him through the Writers Festival for the most part, and poorly at that. My thanks for his work, and I wish you who outlive him well.

Dear Nicole,
Only two years ago we shared a Xmas dinner with you and Dave on the Caribbean cruise. I have known Dave since 1976 when he was at Leishman Books. He was a wonderful man. Please accept Vivian's and my condolences.
