I only met Jonah once, at a music event in Ottawa that he had invited my sister and I to attend, having only met us earlier that day. I was struck by his kindness and openness in extending the invitation. I've been thinking about Jonah these days. Despite such a brief knowing of him, it would seem he was a person who brought people together. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Jonah was a beautiful soul and a beautiful musician. I was one of his colleagues at the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and I'll forever remember his vibrancy and generosity of spirit. He was a kind friend in a dark time, a cool-headed colleague in a crisis, and an artist whose courage I admired tremendously. I miss him.

Jonah was a dear friend at Mutchmor Public School. Jonah was so kind, caring, smart, brave, and talented beyond our years. We admired him deeply and learned so much from him. Rest in peace, Jonah, you will be very missed. My thoughts and love are with you Janice, Alan and Ezra.

I took the bus with Jonah to Muchmore back in 5th grade. His infectious smile and easy laughter took hold of the bus almost every morning. We moved in the same circles for a time, and I have fond memories of him busking on Elgin and lighting up the street with his music. I hope you find peace in these difficult days.

Please know that a huge portion of the music community, at the very least is thinking of you and yours during this rough time. I had the pleasure of giving Jonah a few banjo lessons several years ago, and was struck by his incredible musicality and gentle intelligence. What an extremely nice guy he was. Thinking of you all.

Dear Ezra and family
We are all so saddened by the news of Jonah's passing. My son, Aiden Russell, had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Jonah in various Canterbury ensembles and with both Jonah and Ezra in the OYO. Johan's passion and enjoyment of music was infectious. He will be sorely missed by all in the Ottawa music community.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Janice, I met Jonah just once and remember having quite the animated conversation with him about Vivaldi's concertos. I was struck by how passionate he was about his music. He was just a young lad at the time. I cannot even begin to imagine what you are going through at this very difficult time. Be supported and comforted by those around you and please know that I am thinking of you.
