Elizabeth Hicks

HICKS, Elizabeth Maud (nee Stone) Elizabeth Hicks, daughter of the late Douglas Stone and Lytta Prangley died peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2005 at the age of 84, following a stroke two months earlier. Mourning her passing are her four children; Deborah Hicks currently of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Dr. Gillian Kay of Congleton, Cheshire, England; Graham Hicks and his wife Maria of Edmonton, Alberta; Elisabeth Devalin of Ashland, Oregon, USA, and her four grandchildren; Paul Fraser, Elizabeth, Rosalina, and Cynthia Hicks. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas B. Hicks in 1984 and by her brother J. Douglas Stone in 2000. Elizabeth lived a full and rich life, centred around theatre and the arts, her family, friends, good food and wine, canoeing, and the church. Elizabeth performed and directed at the Ottawa Little Theatre and was active in amateur theatre wherever Douglas was posted by the Department of External Affairs; Ireland, Norway, United States, India, Kenya, and Ghana. After retiring as the administrator for the University of Ottawa Theatre Department, Elizabeth was an active volunteer with the Ottawa Public Library and co-ordinator for the readers at Christ Church Cathedral. Her funeral service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 439 Queen Street, on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Elizabeth's name to The Hospice at May Court or the University of Ottawa Betty Swimmings Fund (Department of Theatre).
