Those of us who took part in the Renfrew music festivals in the 1950s were amazed at his talent. Yesterday while his funeral was on, I played his CD and again marvelled at his genius at the piano.

Dear Mayhew Family:

The valley and beyond has lost one of the all time greats in the music business. I first met Jimmy in the early 70's wen he was doing the television shows on CHOV in Pembroke with Mac, Bonnie and the Melodiers. I was fortunate enough to have sang on two of the shows in 1975 and Jimmy and I and all the Melodiers became friends for life. From Waltzs, Jigs & Reels on the piano to Bach, Beethoven & Motzart classics, Jim could do it all. Most of all he was a shy humble man whom would help out and donate his time musically in any way he could. I was lucky enough to have made a live CD with Jimmy at the "West Winds, Best Western" in Pembroke in October 2007, called "Our Memories Of Mac Beattie". We did 19 tracks of all Mac Beattie songs and he remembered them perfectly. This and the memories I will cherish forever.

Rest in peace my friend;
