Karen, Darcy & Chelsea... no words suffice. John is leaving a mighty big space in our lives.
When I first heard John Henry on guitar many years ago, I realized that I was in the listening to the “real thing” - a man who could have easily gone the distance musically, had he so chosen. He didn’t, because he was shy, and very few people had the pleasure of hearing his genuine talent, which is everybody’s loss. It was a treat hearing him, and playing music with him.
JH was always putting folks on, many of whom missed his wicked sense of humour, but if he caught your eye, you were in on the joke. He could disarm anybody by pulling a simple face.
He worked hard, and played hard, and I could never keep up with him. He had a way of “cutting to the chase” that we all could do well to emulate. His heart was as big as all outdoors, and I’m proud to have been his friend. I’ll miss him, make no mistake.
So now’s he’s gone to the “Big Jam Session In the Sky”, and I’d like to think we might meet up again some day for a tune or two. We’ll have some catching up to do. Cheers, John.
