Mary McElveny

McELVENY, Mary Eva Peacefully in her sleep 07 September, 2011 Born in Wishard Point, New Brunswick in 1922, daughter of James and Nellie Stymiest. One of six children - five brothers Eph, Earl, Benson, Bobby and Lorne, and one sister, Margarite. All have now passed away except Benson and Lorne. Mary studied nursing in Campbellton New Brunswick at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital and Montreal's Royal Victoria hospital. She met her husband Gordon McElveny while working at the Red Cross hospital in Plaster Rock and married in 1949. They had two children; Gordon James and Monna-Leigh and two grandchildren; Lauren and Brett. Mary worked at the Montfort hospital for 27 years. Positions varied from emergency room to Head Nurse of the Preemie and Intensive Care Unit. She enjoyed working in the ER best. As an army wife she accompanied Gordon to Germany for a three year posting and worked in the Base Clinic, in the British Military Hospital and as the High School nurse. On her return to Canada, she went back to the Montfort hospital, until 1984. Living in Germany had wet her appetite for travelling in Europe - so retirement took her and Gordon back to Europe; Germany, Italy, Holland and the U.K. Mary moved into the Perley Rideau 01 June 2006 where Gordon's daily visits helped living away from home. She left us peacefully in her sleep 07 September, 2011. She may have forgotten us but we will never forget her. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home Walkley Chapel 1255 Walkley Rd. (East of Bank) Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Monday in the Chapel at 12 p.m. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens.
