Dr Owen Kealey June 23, 1930 - May 2, 2016 Owen passed away peacefully at home in Ottawa on Monday, May 2nd, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Pat and loving father of 7, Owen was a popular Ottawa physician, practicing for over 40 years. Owen attended St Pat's College and graduated in Medicine from the University of Ottawa. He did his post-graduate work in Boston at the Lahey Clinic and Joslin Diabetes Center before returning to Ottawa to practice as a digestive disease specialist. He stayed active in retirement as a consultant for the Pension Appeal Board. He also contributed his medical knowledge and wit to comedic segments on CBC's The Health Show with the "From The Gum to the Bum" series (the episode entitled Scatology won a Gemini Award). Owen loved being at the family cottage on the Rideau River, spending time with his family and friends, and playing golf. He looked forward to his weekly volunteering at the Shepherds of Good Hope and Friday lunches with his good friends the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out). People will remember Owen for his wonderful stories, his uncanny memory, his love of Broadway musicals, and his unique sense of humour. Those who knew him were touched by his kindness and generosity, his selflessness and modesty, and his love of life. Owen leaves behind his beloved wife Pat, daughters Kathy (Ed Willes), Judy, Sheila (John Lewis) and sons David and Peter (Jeannie Roper) and was predeceased by daughters Maura (Robert Cadloff) and Susan and brother Claude (Carole Kealey). He was the loved grandfather of John Patrick, Robert, Evan, Camryn, and Griffin. There will be a celebration of Owen's life at St. Margaret Mary Parish (7 Fairbairn St., corner of Sunnyside) on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the charity of your choice.
