Family-Placed Obituary
JOSEPH CHARLES SCHEERER 51, of Palm Beach, died of a tragic accidental injury on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at his Palm Beach home. Joe was born on May 1, 1959 in McAllen, Texas to JoAnne Testa Scheerer and Rudolph Paul Scheerer, a prominent Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgeon. He graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida and University of Miami in 1984, with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Soon thereafter Joe joined the management of Testa's restaurant, a business his grandfather co-founded and the second oldest restaurant in Florida. He worked closely with his cousins in the family business until his death. Joe was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed his family and healthy outdoor activities. He is survived by his loving parents JoAnne Testa Scheerer and Dr. Rudolph Paul Scheerer; his wife of 26 years, Sandra Woods Scheerer; two sons Charles Joseph Raymond Scheerer and Joseph Daniel Ammon Scheerer; and two sisters and their spouses Anita Scheerer Yelverton (Michael) and Catherine Scheerer Fanjul (Andres). Additional survivors include his sister-in-law, Linda Woods Perez (Paul); brother-in-law, Daniel Woods (Linda); his nieces and nephews Rudolph and Jonathan, Carissa, Andres Alfonso, and Allegra; Patrick Perez, and Danielle and Bailey Woods; and four cousins Ana Striefel, Cathie Slick, Judy Storey and Thomas Testa. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Palm Beach, FL. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass. It is hard to believe 25 years have past since I worked at Testa's and Joe was starting work. I remember Tommy was really excited that Joe was joining the business. What a nice guy Joe was! He really grew up to be the man who always smiled.I will miss seeing him at Testa's this winter and of course in Bar Harbor.Please accept my condolences. He was a wonderful person-friendly and kind.

Years ago (twenty) I had the opportunity and pleasure of working for Testa's and JOE before attending law school. The beauty of who Joe was is that he believed in treating everyone he came into contact with or worked with with tremendous respect. He made everyone feel special. Over the years, Joe has always asked of my progress. He has watched me grow and has been so proud of me. His smile could always light up a room and his genuineness was so evident. While we all ache knowing he left us way too soon, we know that he is gracing those above us with his wonderful sense of being already!

I personally only knew Joey from frequent trips to Testas. I live in Milwaukee, and come to Palm Beach every winter as a caregiver. It almost goes without saying, a trip to Testas was always a great experience. Joeys kindness..will be sorely missed by all. My thoughts and continued prayers go out to the family, friends and staff.
