Barrie SIMS Obituary
Barrie Sims, loving mother, wife and teacher, passed away June 20, 2016 at the age of 56. Born, Barrie Wiltsie December 19, 1959, in Canfield, OH, she resided in Mountain Brook, AL. She was a ray of sunshine, a 15-year cancer warrior, and a very loyal friend. More than that she was a loving wife to her devoted husband, Dominic Sims and the most wonderful mother to her two children, Todd Sims and Jaime Pears and a special friend to her son-in law, Matthew Pears. She was a 20-year educator at St. Clare Elementary School in North Palm Beach, FL and Riverchase Elementary School in Hoover, AL. Barrie was welcomed into heaven by her father, Dr. Robert Wiltsie; her brother, Drew Wiltsie; and her grandparents, Andrew and Helen Nowak. She is survived by her husband, two children, her mother, Carole Wiltsie, sister, Lori Hively, brother, Todd Wiltsie and a wealth of nieces and nephews. Very special thanks to an outstanding medical team who provided both phenomenal health care and comfort to Barrie and her family: Dr. James Cantrell, Dr. John Piede, Dr. Jay Heidecker and oncology nurses: Jan, Karen, Monica, Melissa, Susan, and Amy of St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Visitation will be Thursday, June 23 5:00PM to 7:00PM St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2 Xavier Circle, Birmingham, AL 35213 and a Funeral Mass, June 24 11:00AM to 12:00PM at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please send your generous donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, PO Box 531225, Birmingham, AL 35253.

I am so sorry to hear the news about your wife. It was the hardest experience I ever had when my wife and eight year old son were killed in a traffic accident in 1986.

I have so many wonderful memories with Barrie at Riverchase Elementary. She was a beautiful lady who gave so much love and compassion to those who knew her, and especially to the children she taught. We will miss her terribly, but remember her fondly as the gentle warrior she was.

Dominic; you, Barrie and your family have been our dear friends for twenty years. Time and miles have never changed the special bond we have. Barrie will always be here in our hearts, thoughts and memories. She will never be forgotten by the innumerable lives she touched.
