Roger Gamblin Obituary

Roger Gamblin, the charismatic businessman accused of looting his title company and fleeing in 2008 with his wife to Colorado, where they were caught last month by the FBI, died today in federal custody, his attorney said.

Gamblin, whose Flagler Title Co. once was one of the nation's largest writers of title insurance for commercial properties, was returned to Florida and appeared on Jan. 5 in federal court in West Palm Beach, suffering from heart problems and other maladies.

While awaiting his next hearing, Gamblin, 62, whose pacemaker led to his arrest, was hospitalized several days ago at Wellington Regional Medical Center. He died this morning about 11 a.m., said his attorney, Richard Lubin.

"He's been very ill for many, many years with a series of complicated issues interrelated to each other, and his heart just couldn't do it anymore," Lubin said, adding that federal authorities granted Gamblin's wife, Peggy, permission to visit him on Wednesday night.

"The family and I are forever grateful that the marshals and the sheriff's department made arrangements for Peggy to be brought there, and she spent some time at his bedside before he passed."

Peggy Gamblin, who faces the same federal fraud charges as her husband did, was in custody at the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office stockade when Gamblin died.

I worked for Frank with the Platnium Group for only one year, but Roger was the one that OK'd my being hired. He was the most descent human being I'll ever hope to meet again. Peggy, you probably don't remember me, but I remember you. My heart is heavy for you and what you must face, but know that there are scores of people out there who believe in you. Thanks for the wonderful memories I had working at Flagler Title.

Dear Peggy and Family, Roger will truly be missed. The years past so fast that it is hard to believe I knew you all for over 12 years. As you you know Roger was a very special soul. Peggy and Roger did so many incredibly kind things over the years. His kindness and caring were out of the realm of most people. He was there for me many times, especially when I lost my Father. I prayer he is with G-d (He deserves to be) and in peace and I pray that everything will go well for all of you.

There are no words to express the deep loss I feel. Did not know about Roger's passing until today.

I will be forever grateful for Roger giving me a shot at learning the title business. After leaving Flagler I continued in the field for several years and without the knowledge I learned from there this never would have happened. My prayers are with his family and I will always think of him as the kind and generous man I remember.

I worked for Roger and Peggy for ten years and always knew them to be understanding and supportive. I learned more about the title business from them in the years I worked there, than anywhere else. Roger wanted us to be the 'best' and he was willing to share his knowledge and expertise and make us the 'best'.
I am saddened to learn of the circumstances that led to his ultimate demise and wish that Peggy has the strength to get thru what lies ahead of her. I will always remember them both fondly and all that they did for me.

Dear, dear Peggy,

Nancy, the girls and I are devastated at your loss, at all of our loss, of a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. We are comforted (but just a little) by the fact that you had opportunities to visit with him and are now close to friends and family for support. May G-d walk at you side, as I walk with you in my heart. With boundless love to you.
