Arlene Belson, 76, of West Palm Beach, FL left us on May 13, 2013 after a brave and long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Arlene was born in Rockville Centre, NY on September 15, 1936 to the late Bernard and Nan Oberlander. Arlene had a passion for life and this showed in her relationships with people, children of all ages, dogs and horses. After high school she became a showroom model and sales rep in the garment industry. Later she volunteered to read for the blind, as well as reading stories to elementary school children in Florida schools. Arlene trained dogs at Peggy Adams Dog and Cat Rescue and successfully placed many dogs into wonderful homes. Arlene was on the architectural review board for her association at Monte Verde and was instrumental in creating the elegant color scheme that has enhanced the beauty of the neighborhood. She was the driving force in the creation of a dog park at Ibis which became her favorite place to take her dog, Max to socialize. Recently, Arlene became a member of the National Council of Jewish Women.Arlene lived in Florida for the past 15 years and leaves behind her loving husband of 22 years, Victor Belson; her beloved shih tzu, Max; her cherished daughters, Lauren and Dana Abrams of California; her wonderful grandchildren, Alexandra Abrams, Nicole and Max Holownia; her step-children, Jeffrey and Susan Belson, Ken Belson and Harumi Osawa, and Elizabeth Belson, and her step-grandchildren, Jared and Emma Belson along with the hundreds of friends and people she has touched along the way. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL, 33407, or an animal rescue organization of your choosing. A gathering celebrating Arlene's life will begin at 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 16 at the IBIS Country Club, West Palm Beach, followed by a service at 2:00 PM. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at their residence in IBIS Country Club immediately following the service and on Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

I met Arlene just 2 short years ago when we moved into Monte Verde at Ibis. What a wonderful neighbor. She took me into her lovely home and shared all her references with me for medical and maintenance help.

She had style and grace beyond words. We will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace.

I first met Arlene several years ago in Westhampton Beach. She and Vic were staying with friends and we were renting the apartment right next door. We became friendly quickly, and bonded. Arlene was so approachable and warm.
Approximately a year later, I was invited to a party for her, given by her children. I thought it was a combination Birthday Party and good-bye party. I cried after I left, knowing that I would not see her again. But she rebounded....and was optimistic for a long time. We shared phone conversations. She had a positive attitude.
She was courageous and had amazing tenacity. Rest in Peace dear friend. I will never forget you.
