Ida Maxwell Obituary

Long time Paradise resident and beloved mother Ida Maxwell died quietly December 26, 2010 in her home with family at her side. She was 87.

She was born September 11, 1923, in Elgin, Oregon. Mrs. Maxwell often stated she was a "lumberjack's daughter" as her parents owned and operated the Reed Lumber Mill outside of town. At her "sweet sixteen" birthday party, in 1939, she met her future husband, Glenn Maxwell. They were married in 1944. Ida Maxwell was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Blue Mountain Chapter and was a graduate from a business college in Portland, Oregon.

In 1956, Ida and Glenn Maxwell moved from Marin County to Paradise with their three daughters. They opened GlenIda Hardware store that same year and it was renamed GlenIda Homewares in 1959. Ida Maxwell owned and managed GlenIda Homewares until she obtained her real estate license. She and her husband co-founded Alpine Real Estate and became active participants in the Paradise real estate community.

Mrs. Maxwell was an avid walker and logged 3-4 miles every day for over 15 years until she suffered a broken hip in 2004. Her favorite route was an early morning-rain or shine-loop off Bille Rd., Lucky John, Wagstaff, Thomasen and Posie Lane. She "raised" several generations after her children left for college as her home was always a welcome retreat for young people who would drop by for a game of basketball or ping pong enjoyed with a soda and friendly conversation. Mrs. Maxwell also enjoyed traveling around the U.S. & Canada with her husband in their 5th wheel, after they retired in the mid 1980's.

Ida Maxwell is survived by her three daughters; Lindy Norgaard, Barry Wolfe and Garnelle Maxwell-Miller; sons-in-law Ben Wolfe & Thom Maxwell-Miller; five grandchildren: Eliot, Kristen, Rhyan, Aylea, Vanndon; and three great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Marissa and Danielle.

No services are planned and inurnment will be in private.

So sad to hear about Ida. She was a wonderful lady and a very good friend to my mother. To Barry and the rest of the Maxwell family I send my thoughts and prayers.
