Rick Perry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 21, 2012.
Rick Perry, or as many knew him, "Ranger" died in Sun Valley, Idaho on April 14th 2012. Born in Delaware, in 1951, to Robert and Barbara, his family moved all over the country while his father was working as a chemical engineering professor and consultant for the United Nations. They eventually settled in Rochester, New York where he attended high school. He gained a love for sailing with his father and completed many long distance sailing trips later on in his life. At Springfield College in Massachusetts he was an avid athlete who was fortunate enough to be a part of two Division I Final Four soccer teams as well as two Division I Final Four Volleyball teams.
After finishing college, he moved west to Sun Valley, Idaho where he embarked on a career in restaurant management which eventually led him to San Diego, where he married and had his first son. In 1992, with another son on the way, he and the family moved to Park City, Utah where he was involved in the opening of "Burgies" on Main Street. Rick spent a majority of his life there enjoying golf and skiing with his family. A love of sports led him to become an influential part of Basin Recreation in its infancy, and helped it to become the successful program that it is today. His vision was one of a community where all children could compete and play whatever sport they were interested in. With a passion for sports, he was very supportive of his sons' endeavors in skiing, swimming, and golf while also helping to cultivate their minds by pushing them to do well in school.
Rick could always bring a smile to your face with his constant sarcasm and easy-going demeanor. He was always fun-loving and outgoing with a friendly attitude that made an impact in every community that he was a part. His family and friends will continue to cherish all of the wonderful relationships that he created. Rick was 60 years old and is survived by his two sons Stephen and Travis, his wife of 24 years Renee and his brother Geoff.
A celebration of his life will be on June 16th in Park City, Utah. The family wishes to thank Wood River Chapel Mortuary. Online condolences and shared memories are welcome at woodriverchapel.com.

How very sad to hear this news. I have not seen Rick for over 30 years, but the image of his lively, warm, funny and sincere spirit is what I recall from my years with him at Harley. My heartfelt condolances.

This news is hard to fathom, Renee.

I hadn't seen Rick, or you, for 22 years now -- since 1990. But my memories of him going back to high school days in Rochester, NY, are as fresh as ever. Rick and I shared a lot of good times on the athletic field, and did a lot of after-hours carousing together in our youth.

In the summer of 1972 Rick and I traveled in Europe together -- a whirlwind month and a half from Norway to Spain and countless points in between. It remains one of the highlights of my life, and I still look thru that old photo album on occasion. Rick and I were both 21 at the time. That's how I'll always remember him.

I can't believe you're gone, Rick. Goodbye, old friend.

What sad news comes our way out here in Carlsbad, CA. We received a phone call from our friend in Park City who told us of the news. Our thoughts are with you at this time. Rick was always someone I felt comfortable with and could turn to as a friend and for insurance questions. He was a great soccer player and we had fun kicking the ball around with him. I wish only the best for your family during this difficult time.

Rick was a great friend at Basin Recreation, and as my insurance agent for more than a decade, took good care of all my insurance needs. I enjoyed dropping by his office to share lively banter, and miss his witty insights into our often quirky town and its characters.

Rene, Stephen, and Travis,
We were so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. We have so many memories of him, especially from ski race days, where he was usually the first in line a the tail gaiters for a braut and brownie with the kids. He loved to watch you boys race, and was so proud of you and your efforts in sports and school. He will be missed!
