Helen Hammond Obituary

HAMMOND-#1>Helen Elizabeth Reiton Hammond, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2005. She was 89 years old and slipped away peacefully with her daughters around her. Helen was born June 12, 1916 in Hong Kong and lived there in Kowloon until she was 19 when she went to Pasadena to attend college at Pasadena (Nazarene) College. While in college she met many wonderful friends, including an old acquaintance from Hong Kong, Bob Hammond. Th ey were married in 1939 and were married for 63 years until he went to be with the Lord in 2002. Helen and Bob returned to her beloved Hong Kong as missionaries with Helen's mother and father. In 1941 they were forced to stay at a Stanley Prison Camp in Hong Kong. When they were released and sent home, Helen and Bob started a radio ministry, Voice of China and Asia to support the missions work in Asia. When Helen was not in the mission field, or working in the radio ministry, she was very active as Presiden t of the Women's Missionary Society at Bresee Church of the Nazarene. Helen was not a woman of many words, she was a quiet and calming person, with a sweet loving spirit. She loved telling people of her friend, Jesus, and only He knows how many lives this gentle woman touched. She will be missed by her loving daughters, her sister, grandchildren, great-grand children, and so many loved ones. The memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. In the Sunrise Chapel at Mountain View C emetery, 2400 N. Fair Oaks Avenue, Altadena, California. The family requests in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to Voice of China and Asia, P. O. Box 15, Pasadena, CA 90012-0015 or to Interlink Hospice, 943 North Grand Avenue, Covina, CA 91724.
