John LUBOW Obituary
On September 26th, 2016 John "Sonny" Walter Lubow, Sr. passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. John was born in Temple, Texas on August 2nd, 1944, to Jack and Mary Alyce Lubow. He lived in Highland Park, where he graduated from Franklin High School in 1962, and then went on to marry his high school sweetheart Georgia Shumard. John later attended Pasadena City College and Northern Arizona University. He lived and worked as a General Contractor in the South Bay, Malibu, and Pasadena, before moving to the City of South Pasadena, where he spent his remaining years restoring and improving local homes and businesses as owner of Lubow Design and Construction. In his spare time he loved surfing, fishing and spending time with his six grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife Georgia of 42 years, his brother Patrick and parents Jack and Mary Alyce Lubow (nee Furlong).
John is survived by his son John, his daughter Nicole Shrout, and her husband Daniel. He is also survived by his loving partner Janis Chew, her son Randy and wife Nicole, her daughter Kristin and husband Wes, his sister Ronda Mahoney and husband Warren and much loved nieces, nephews, in-laws, grandchildren and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 6th at 10:30am at Holy Family Church, 1527 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA 91030. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena

Sonny, I don't know why I googled your name tonight ...after so many years?
...It saddens my heart that you passed away last October.
I will never forget or quit appreciating everything you taught me in the five years we worked together in the 70's ...laughing a lot, what we built, laughing, drinking coffee, lots of it. Our many days surfing side by side, more laughing, building and remodeling homes on Point Dume and along the coast , laughing together even more, drinking coffee, eating lunch at the Point Dume Coffee Shop, being locals to the locals, going to Malibu Lumber, working into the early hours of the next day side by side on some actors home. having custom surfboards made for us. Then surfing on them at Lil Dume while doing a huge remodel on Point Dume... so cool, even before it was cool!
Little did I know that it was laying the foundation for my own career in the years ahead in San Diego. I had my own Rob back then who I taught just like you did me. Thanks Sonny! I didn't know it would take me through the next 42 years.
I am sorry that I missed the last 20 years and saying goodbye old friend. Please know that you made a huge difference in my life and I will always be grateful for this.
