Gladys Hayes Obituary

GLADYS VIRGINIA (FAIR) HAYES Gladys Virginia (Fair) Hayes passed away at her home in Colton on November 25, after complications from a respiratory illness. She was 98. Gladys was born on April 11, 1912 in Bluefield West Virginia, the daughter of James Darby Fair and Della Rae (Price) Fair. She lived with her family in Elizabethton, Tennessee until 1927 when the family left for Oregon for a year, then moved on to settle in Loma Linda, California. Gladys married Edgar Hayes and lived in a number of locations throughout the U.S. including Philadelphia and San Jose, prior to returning to Colton where she owned and managed an apartment complex. Gladys recalled her childhood in Tennessee fondly, and cherished memories of family including her beloved mother and her maternal Grandfather, who fought in the Union\'s Tennessee 13th Cavalry during the Civil War. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents as well as Edgar Hayes, brothers Dungen, Homer, James, Haskell, Luther and Ralph, her sister Muriel, and half sisters Lucy, Josie and Rula. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Her smile and presence will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held early in 2011.
