James Lee Obituary

JAMES CHIOH LEE James Chioh Lee of Riverside left his worldly body on Oct. 15 to join his Heavenly Father. He was 39 years old. James succumbed to brain cancer after a valiant five-month battle. He was nurtured by his loving family, friends and fellow Brothers and Sisters at Harvest Christian Fellowship, where he served as their publications editor. James was born in Santa Clara, Calif. on Jan. 5, 1971. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a bachelor\'s degree in English, and went on to follow his lifelong passion for sports as a sports writer at the Riverside Press-Enterprise. He then went on to write for Our Times, a Los Angeles Times Community Edition to cover sports in the Inland Empire. James moved on to become a sports editor at the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa But it was James\' greatest thrill when he was named as publications editor of the Harvest Christian Fellowship. "He dedicated his life to serving God," said his wife, Danielle Lee. "He truly did, in every way." James was also a wonderful, loving husband and father to Jimmy and Emma. He savored the "small" things like playing with them in the park, taking them to see his parents, James and Grace Lee. He was filled with joy and pride over their accomplishments in school and life. Aside from his service to the Lord and devotion to his family he also has a passion for fellowship with friends, sports and he was a foodie. After James got his diagnosis, he kept his priorities on his Faith. "He didn\'t say I want to go to the Bahamas," Danielle Lee said. "He said he wanted to work at the Harvest Crusade." He lived to serve God and love his family. He did both with honor and integrity. He never blamed God, nor expressed any bitterness at his condition. Rather, in his final days he kept talking about how much he was looking forward to returning "Home" -- with God. He served God until the end. Besides his wife, children and parents, James is survived by his two older sisters, Vivian Lee-Meltzer and Joy Fossett. A celebration of James\' life is planned for next Tuesday, October 26th at Harvest Christian Fellowship, 6115 Arlington Ave., Riverside, at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Harvest Christian Fellowship.

I knew James only a short time at Times Community News, but feel fortunate to have met him. James was an incredibly talented writer and reporter, who always offered encouragement and insight to "rookies" like me, who were new to newspaper journalism. He was also a kind man, and clearly devoted to his family. My deepest sympathies during this difficult time.

Dear Jimmy:

Your short time on earth was completed to serve our Lord. Only "God" has our plan on life and "He" needed you in heaven. My heart is filled with pain and you will truly be missed. May my prayers give your family the strength to get through this difficult time. Thank you for giving me the honor to visit and say "good-bye" four weeks ago.

Aloha my friend,

I never met you but feel like I knew you from praying for you the first day at a mentor meeting when I heard the news of your illness. I can see you were a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, what more could anyone do with their life. Praying for your family and know one day we will all be reunited in our Heavenly home where nothing stings anymore.
