Dear Mr & Mrs Ken Johnson,
Marjory was one of my favorite Braille Institute Library patrons. She would call & say, "this is number 99", You know like the same-named character in the old TV sitcom Get Smart. We have lots of patrons whose last name is Johnson, Marjory was number 99 in that list, and evidently, someone in the library told her that. So, whenever I heard that gravelly voice say, "This is number 99," I knew it was Marjory.
When she called, we would talk about the weather (I knew she preferred the heat of Summer), the books she was reading, her health or how her life was going. I know she was struggling for a long time. But no matter how hard things were getting for her, she never failed to ask how I was doing. Sometimes I would call her just to see how she was doing. Now, of course, I wish I had called her these last couple of weeks. I will miss number 99.
Sincerely.

In loving memory of my mother, Marjory Cathline Belle Frasher Johnson...
She was born "in a little house on 5th St." in 1922 when Riverside had clear skies and fragrant orange groves. Her father was a dentist who built his own houses and her grandparents had the first flush toilet in Riverside! She played the accordion, had a beautiful singing voice, and was soloist in the Methodist church choir. After attending business college, she became a skilled secretary and bookkeeper for several Riverside businesses and was owner/manager of the Bahia apartments.
I have fond memories of her as a dedicated parent in the 1950's-60's... PTA president, Girl/Boy Scout leader, hospital volunteer, treasurer of her golf group, and active in other community and charity organizations. I cherish the Christmas stockings that she knit for our family and still hang them on the fireplace mantle each holiday season. Our family traditions are kept alive with her recipes for Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts.
She enjoyed playing bridge and golfing at the Victoria Country Club with my father, Roger Lynn Johnson. She was an intelligent and hard-working individual who loved reading, gardening, and exploring metaphysics and the development of the soul with PAR (Parapsychology Association of Riverside). She was also a Reiki Master and numerologist.
I admire that as her body aged and her eyesight deteriorated, she accepted reality and "devoured" recorded books on tape and disc. And throughout the trials and tribulations of life, she may have been frustrated with her children but never gave up on or abandoned us. I wish she could have been closer, physically and emotionally, to her children and grandchildren.
She lived a long, full life, and will forever be appreciated for her competence and feisty spirit.
