Robert Loveless

ROBERT W. (BOB) LOVELESS January 2, 1929 ~ September 2, 2010 Robert W. (Bob) Loveless passed away peacefully at his home in Riverside, CA, on September 2, 2010, at age 81, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in Warren, Ohio in 1929, and served in the Army Air Corp. and the Merchant Marine in his youth. He attended Kent State University and the Chicago Institute of Design. Bob Loveless was celebrated throughout the custom knife industry and world as a legendary craftsman. His custom hand-made knives have been highly sought-after since he began making them in 1953 and sold his first knives to Abercrombie and Fitch. He was the founder of Cal Knives, and a founding member and past President of the Knifemakers\' Guild. He is survived by his wife Yoshiko, her daughters Paula Arklander (Ray) and Belinda Diehl (Shawn), and her grandchildren Mandy, Hollie, Emily, Kyle, Michelle and Matthew. Bob is also survived by his three daughters Marylisa Tierney (Michael), Robin Askew and Alison Alemán, his grandchildren, Sean, Daniel, Christine, Alese, Kevin, Therese, Nico, Anna Becky, James, and his great-grandson Miles James. Bob will also be missed by his best friend and business partner Jim Merritt, best friends Jack Morck and Rene Sharp, and by numerous close friends, associates and fellow knife makers and collectors throughout the world. Bob Loveless will be remembered for generations for the beautiful hand-made knives he created, for his generosity of spirit and his heart of gold, and for his love of his family and for animals. A memorial celebration of life will be held by his family and friends.
