Juan Vargas Obituary

Juan Melendez Vargas, charmer, salesman, storyteller, dog lover, outdoorsman, passed away March 30, 2013.

The great thing about our father was his outlook on life and how he lived it. His children will remember his love for a 0.99-cent bag of peanuts, downtown taco stands, and ninja moves. Others will remember him for his kind heart, sweet tooth, great friendship, and smooth negotiating skills. He had a vast knowledge of classic cars and if you needed a roof you called "El Dorado Roofing and Construction". Juan was a very giving person; as his sister said, "You could give him something and he would turn around and give it to someone who needed it more." More importantly, he was a father who had tremendous love for his children and family. He always lived by the motto, "You can't take it with you when you go."

Juan's leaves behind to cherish his memory: parents Jesus Garza and Magdalena Alas; daughters Kristy and Jenny Vargas; son Johnathon Vargas; grandsons Ashton Vargas, Devyn Vargas, and Karder Vargas; seven sisters, three brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday April 3, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581, followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home with Pastor Jamie R. Vargas officiating.

Dear Brother,

You memorial service was beautiful. I felt your spirit close as we gathered and cherished your memory. I spoke at your service to wish you farewell and there was so much love that night from those who came together to celebrate your memory. I will miss the way you hugged me and always told me how much you loved me. It broke my heart to lose you but you didn't go alone for a part of me went with you. There will always be a heartache and often a silent tear but always a precious memory of the days when you were here. When tomorrow starts without you, I will try not to think we are far apart, for every time I think you, I will know that you are right here in my heart. In life I loved you dearly and in death I love you still.

Dear Brother, I miss you so much and I will always carry your memory and love in my heart. This life is a distant place without you. I miss your hugs and your wonderful way of showing me you loved me. I spoke at your memorial service and I know you were present in spirit. There was so much love during your service and farewell. It broke my heart to lose you but you didn't go alone for part of me went with you. There will always be a heartache and often a silent tear but always a precious memory of the days when you were here. In life I loved you dearly and in death I love you still.
I know that when tomorrow starts without you, I will try not to think we are far apart, for every time I think of you, I know I have you right here in my heart. Rest in peace my beloved brother.

I will always remember John with a smile on his face. When I first saw John outside for the first time he was talking to two men in Spanish and I thought "Gosh he sure talks good Spanish for being a white guy. He speaks it better than me and I'm the one who is Mexican". Come to find out he was just as Mexican as I was. Not a mean streak in him. He was always kind and caring. Always gave me a hug when I saw him. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was no stranger to anyone. When I had to cut down an oak tree in my front yard I called him and he knew just the man to do it. He knew everyone. Two things he loved to eat that I knew of were menudo and watermelon. I would invite him to eat menudo whenever I made it and he ate to his hearts content. One day someone gave my husband a watermelon and we were eating it outside on our front porch. He and Jonathan happened to be outside so I invited him to eat with us. He kept asking me could he have some more and I told him of course. My husband who also loves watermelon but is not supposed to eat it due to being diabetic had this funny look on his face. I think he was worried it was going to be all gone. I didn't care if John would have eaten it all because I didn't want my husband to eat a lot of it due to his diabetes. My husband's worried look was funny.

It's hard to believe he is no longer with us. We don't understand why things happen sometimes but I know that we do not question God. All I can to do now is pray for his family and I know The Lord will grant them the peace He has promised all of us. John may you rest in peace and I will see you in Heaven when God calls me home. We will all miss you and love you for the man you were...one with a big heart and a big smile.

Juan was such a warm and friendly person. I will miss seeing him at Smither Park. He was a very dear man and so excited about the warrior he was building.

Juan was a charismatic man who brightened the lives of all who knew him. My husband and I have only known him for a few months, since he started his art project at Smither Park in his East End neighborhood, but we came to treasure him and admire his enthusiasm and creativity. We will miss him. Barbara & Marks Hinton

Juan was a good friend to do many people. He was known throughout Fonde as a giver. He loved our small neighborhood and was always ready to lend a hand. He will be missed dearly. Thankfully we in thr Fonde Civic Club will always have a piece of him in our hearts and at Smither Park memorial wall. Rest in peace friend.

I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. John and his family lived a few houses down for 20+ years and has always been there for my family. At times he was our mechanic and other times maybe our plumber. He's even helped us bury a dog or two. He was just always willing to lend a hand. We have alot of great memories with him and he will be greatly missed.
