My fondest memories of my grandfather involve hiking in the Olympic Mountains, sharing an appreciation of the culinary arts, and watching cinema. He was an academic like I am, and he was never afraid to consider a radical idea or philosophy one might espouse. He was an open minded individual with a zest for life. Every time I grill salmon on my charcoal grill I think of Doc. I wish he could have met his great grandson. John Mark would have liked that and I think Doc would as well. He loved his wife and his family. I wish I would have met him sooner in life......

Bob is fondly remembered by our family as a both a gentle man and a gentleman.
We knew him as a gifted professional, a warm and kind friend, a fine thinker with a positive world view...as well as that quiet, quick and clever sense of humor!

He was a fantastic Uncle, and a very gentle man. He was able to discuss anything with thoughtfulness and humor, whether it was the meaning of life or the trail to the top of Mt. Angeles.
